BELTON – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Kansas City Junior Open at the Eagles Landing Golf Club from July 1-2. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
boys 16-18
In the boys 16-18 division, Peyton Smith from Lees Summit, MO placed first. This was Peyton’s first time playing in an HJGT tournament, he did a great job on the course bringing in an exceptional scorecard. With four birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 71 and 72 totaling 143 strokes for the weekend. The runner up honors went to Noah Moberg from Grimes, IA. His scores of 71 in round 1 and 77 in round 2 gave him a tournament total of 148 strokes, his best HJGT score yet. Lawson Hachmeister from Ankeny, IA finishes up the top three honors with a total score of 153 strokes.

boys 14-15
Leading the boys 14-15 division was Henry Mayor from Mission Hills, KS. With four birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 75 for both days. Henry finished in first place with a total score of 150 strokes. This was Henry’s first time playing with the HJGT, his next tournament being the Major Championship at Tiffany Greens. Rowan Banning placed as the runner up honors for the weekend after he brought in his lowest score of the year. Banning, from Leawood, KS brought in scores of 73 for round 1 and 86 for round 2 totaling 159 strokes. With a final score of 160, Patrick Mayo from Leawood, KS finishes up the top three honors.

boys 11-13
Newcomer to the HJGT, Charlie Homsey from Overland Park, KS was our first place finisher in the boys 11-13 division. Homsey brought in three birdies on the weekend and scores of 82 and 74. He was able to take the win with a total of 156 strokes. After his first tournament, Charlie is in the Top 100 for HJGT point rankings. The runner up honors went to Dylan Press from St. Louis, MO. In round 1 he brought in a score of 80 and brought in an 83 for round 2, his final score was 163 strokes. This was Dylan’s second tournament of the year and his second Top 2 finish. With one eagle on the weekend and a final score of 170, Liam Weller finishes up the top three honors. Weller, from Des Peres, MO is ranked 8th in the HJGT point rankings.

girls 14-18
To finish off a great weekend, Tierney Baumstark from Columbia, MO was crowned champion of the girls 14-18 division. Baumstark has been playing with the HJGT since 2020 and has nine Top 10 finishes under her belt. This was her first tournament of 2023, she secured her win with five birdies and a total of 152 strokes. The runner up honors went to Addison Davis from Kirksville, MO. Addison’s scores of 78 and 83 along with four birdies on the weekend gave her a total score of 161 strokes. Finishing up top three honors was Makenna Kincheloe from Parkville, MO with a total score of 167 strokes.
