PEACHTREE CITY – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Invited Club Series #7 at Braelinn Golf Club this past weekend from August 12-13. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
In the boys 16-18 division, newcomer Joey Aycock from Sharpsburg, GA finished the weekend as champion. Aycock did a great job in his first HJGT tournament and brought in an exceptional scorecard. With six birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 72 and 80. He took home the win with a total of 152 strokes. Owen Lewis from Marietta, GA and James Perry from Lawrenceville, GA tied for the runner-up honors on the weekend. Lewis put up scores of 81 and 72 while Perry put up scores of 76 and 77. Both players were able to finish the weekend with a final score of 153 strokes.
Longtime HJGT player and third-place HJGT points leader, Luke Friend from Acworth, GA was the first-place finisher in the boys 14-15 division. Friend has played with the HJGT since 2020 with over 25 tournaments under his belt. He has finished in the Top 10 in all the tournaments he’s played in. This past weekend he was able to secure his fifth first place win with a total of 143 strokes. With a final score of 153, Aiden Zimmerman took home the runner-up honors on the weekend. Zimmerman, from Newnan, GA is an up-and-coming player on tour. He is currently within the Top 50 players of the HJGT point rankings. Hunter Hylton from Hilton Head Island, SC finishes up the top three honors. He brought in scores of 74 and 82, ending the weekend with 156 strokes.
In his first HJGT tournament, Lukas McCormack from Peachtree City, GA finished in first place in the boys 11-13 division. With five birdies on the weekend, he brought in a round 1 score of 78 and a 77 in round 2. McCormack secured his win with a final score of 155 strokes. We applaud his effort on the course and hope to see him on tour in the future.
To finish off a great weekend, Cadence Nance from Sharpsburg, GA was crowned champion of the girls 14-18 division. This was Cadence’s third first place finish of 2023. With scores of 74 and 82 along with five birdies, she ended the weekend with 156 strokes. The runner-up honors went to Sophia Cellini from Peachtree City, GA. Cellini finished the weekend with a scorecard of 167 strokes, her lowest score of 2023. This follows an outstanding first-place finish at the Invited Club Series #4 at Chapel Hills. Finishing up the top three honors, Ashlyn Taylor from Atlanta, GA with scores of 86 and 82, totaling 168 strokes.
