VERNON HILLS – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Illinois Junior Open at the White Deer Run Golf Course from July 8-9. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
In the boys 16-18 division, Nathan Elm from Algonquin, IL finished in first place. With six birdies on the weekend, he had scores of 75 and 80. Elm finished the weekend with a final score of 155, this brought him his second win of the year. The runner up honors went to Kartik Vasudeva, a newcomer to the HJGT from Vernon Hills, IL. Vasudeva had two birdies on the weekend and scores of 76 and 82 totaling 158 strokes. In a tie for the top three honors was Daniel Lindemann from Millstadt, IL and Ryan Watson from Plainfield, IL. Both players had scores of 79 and 81 giving them a total score of 160.
Fitzpatrick Knight from Lake Forest, IL finished the weekend in first place in the boys 14-15 division. Knight brought in an outstanding scorecard for the weekend. He put up scores of 80 for both days giving him a total score of 160. This was his third tournament of the year and his third win. Logan Hong from Oswego, IL took home the runner up honors for the weekend. With three birdies, he brought in scores of 81 and 83 totaling 164 strokes. Finishing up top three honors, Leo Salerno from Wheaton, IL with a final score of 172 strokes, his best score of the year.
Taking the lead in the boys 11-13 division was Jonah Chung from Chicago, IL. Chung brought in a round 1 score of 95 and a round 2 score of 88. He was able to take the first place win with a combined total of 183 strokes. Jonah is an up-and-coming player on tour and is within the Top 50 of HJGT point rankings. With two scores of 95 and a final score of 190, Colin Biebel took home the runner up honors for the weekend. Biebel, from La Grange, IL played in his first tournament of the year this past weekend. We applaud his efforts on the course. Blake Sarkady from Chicago, IL finishes up the top three honors with a final score of 231 strokes.
Sophia Klapper from Chicago, IL placed first in the girls 14-18 division. Klapper did a great job bringing in scores of 87 in round 1 and 93 in round 2. She secured her first win with a final score of 180 strokes. Sophia will play next at the Cog Hill Junior Championship, we hope to see her bring in another win.
To finish off a great weekend, Aubrey Molaison from Waukesha, WI was crowned champion of the girls under 13 division. This was Aubrey’s fifth win as well as her lowest score of the year. With a round 1 score of 88 and 89 in round 2, she secured her win with a total of 177 strokes.
