GUNTERSVILLE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Huntsville Summer Junior Open at the Gunters Landing Golf Club from August 5-6. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had two divisions: Boys 16-18 and Girls 14-18.
Longtime HJGT player, John Mark Mills from Pontotoc, MS was the first-place winner in the boys’ 16-18 division. Mills has been playing with the HJGT since 2020 and has placed in the Top 10 over 10 times. This weekend he was able to bring in scores of 77 in round 1 and 36 in round 2 for a combined score of 113 strokes. Andrew Dodgen from Huntsville, AL took home the runner up honors on the weekend, this was his first event of the year. With a score of 78 in round 1 and 37 in round 2, he ended the weekend with a final score of 115 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors, Caleb Cummings from Carrolton, GA with scores of 80 and 30, totaling 118 strokes.
To finish off a great tournament, Klare Jamison from Huntsville, AL was crowned champion of the girls 14-18 division. With one eagle on the weekend, she brought in scores of 73 in round 1 and 41 in round 2. Jamison finished the weekend with a score of 114 strokes to secure her third first place win of the year. Currently Klare is in within the Top 10 players of the HJGT point rankings. Kate Ryan from Colombia, MO participated in her first HJGT event this past weekend and placed as the runner up honors. Her scores of 80 and 38 gave her a weekend score of 118 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors was Courtney Johnson from Birmingham, AL with a scorecard of 132 strokes.
