NORTH WINDHAM – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Hartford, CT Junior Open at the Golf Club at Windham from July 8-9. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had six divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
Leading the boys 16-18 division was Brady Pill from Westbrook, CT. Pill had an exceptional scorecard for the weekend. With six birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 70 and 66. Pill finished with 136 strokes to take home the victory. Brady has been playing with the HJGT for a little over a year now and has six Top 10 finishes. The runner up honors went to Leo Dixon from Bedford, NH. Dixon had three birdies on the weekend and brought in a score of 71 for both days for a final score of 142 strokes. In a tie for the top three honors was Watson Meyer from New Canaan, CT and Kai Shing Ernie Mok from Wallingford, CT. Both players brought in an impressive score of 145 strokes.
In the boys 14-15 division, Jake Aronson from Demarest, NJ placed first after playing a great game on the course this past weekend. Aronson finished the weekend with a round 1 score of 75 and a round 2 score of 73, ending the weekend with 148 strokes. Griffin Lawlor from Norwalk, CT placed as our runner up honors. He was able to bring in one eagle, four birdies and an impressive score of 149 strokes. Ben Aronson from Demarest, NJ finishes up top three honors with a final score of 150.
In the boys 11-13 division, Achira Wong from Larchmont, NY finished the weekend as our champion. Wong did a fantastic job on the course and brought in his best score so far this year. In round 1 he brought in a score of 77 and in round 2 a 76 for a total of 153. James Gannon from Doylestown, PA placed as the runner up honors for the weekend. With scores of 103 and 94 he had a total of 197 strokes.
Liam Rotatori from Stamford, CT placed first in the boys under 10 division, taking home his 11th first place win in a row. With one eagle and two birdies on the weekend, he had a round 1 score of 73 and an 82 in round 2. Liam was able to take another victory with a total of 155 strokes.
In her first HJGT tournament of the year, Isabella Hassan from Wilton, CT was the first place finisher for the girls 14-18 division this past weekend. Hassan has played with HJGT since 2022 and has six Top 10 finishes. This weekend she took the victory with scores of 78 for both days giving her a final score of 156. The runner up honors went to Iliana Chaplinski from Plantsville, CT. Chaplinksi brought in a round 1 score of 93 and a 90 for round 2 totaling 183 for the weekend.
To finish off a great weekend, Caroline Cleary from Stonington, CT was crowned the girls under 13 division champion. This was her fourth Top 2 win of the year. With scores of 90 and 86, her total for the weekend was 176 strokes.
