LAGRANGE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Greyhawk Junior Open at the Greyhawk Golf Club from July 8-9. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
In the boys 16-18 division, David Swab from North Royalton, OH placed first. Swab brought in a fantastic scorecard for the weekend. With six birdies on the weekend, he shot a 75 in round 1 and 70 for round 2. David finished the weekend with 145 strokes to take the championship title. This follows a second place finish at the Major Championship at Bunker Hill where he scored a 149. The runner up honors went to Carter Miller from Strasburg, OH. Miller had scores of 79 and 73 for a total of 152 strokes. This was his best score so far this year. Finishing up the top three honors, with a final score of 156 was Vincent Borros from Strongsville, OH.
Leading the boys 14-15 division was Keating Holland from Ann Arbor, MI. He brought in a score of 86 for round 1 and an 83 in round 2. Keating secured the first place victory with a total of 169 strokes. With a final score of 172, Nathan Chege takes home the runner up honors. Chege, from Olmsted Falls, OH is an up-and-coming player on tour and has placed in the Top 2 four other times this year. Nate Hazard from Olmsted Falls, OH finishes up top three honors with scores of 87 and 89 totaling 176 strokes.
In the boys 11-13 division, Tommy Mercer from Gahanna, OH secured his first win of the year this past weekend. Mercer did a great job on the course, he brought in a round 1 score of 90 and a round 2 score of 88. His final score for the weekend was 178 strokes. This follows a 9th place finish at the Columbus Junior Open where he scored a 177.
To finish off a great weekend, Eliza Mercer from Gahanna, OH was the first place finisher in the girls 14-18 division. Mercer is a newer player to the HJGT, she has played in two other tournaments finishing in the Top 3 in both. This weekend she was able to take home the win with a total of 161 strokes. The runner up honors went to Madonna Fleck from Celina, OH. Fleck brought in scores of 90 and 85 totaling 175 strokes. Finishing up top three honors, Pearl Lundgren from Moon Twp, PA brought in a total of 178 strokes.
