POMPEY – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Elite Series at the Pompey Club from July 5-6. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
In his first HJGT tournament, Mitchell Archer from Syracuse, NY led the boys 16-18 division. Archer brought in an exceptional scorecard for the tournament. With a total of six birdies, he had a round 1 score of 72 and a 76 for round 2. Mitchell was able to take the first place win with a total of 148 strokes. The runner up honors went to Tyler Stark from Hilton, NY. Stark put up scores of 75 and 78 giving him a combined total of 153 strokes, his lowest score of the year. Matt Porter from Fayetteville, NY finishes up the top three honors. With one eagle and three birdies, his final score was 155 strokes.
In the boys 14-15 division, Matthew Stigliano from Palm Beach Gardens, FL was our first place finisher. This was his third event of the year and his first win. With a round 1 score of 86 and a round 2 score of 82, he had a total of 168 strokes. With a final score of 172, Cash Mcdonell takes home the runner up honors. Mcdonell, from Kingston, Canada is a newcomer to the HJGT, this was his first tournament. Finishing up top three honors was Martino Shattuck from Endwell, NY. He put up scores of 83 and 83 for a combined 176 strokes for the tournament.
Nathan Hoham from Hamilton, NY placed first in the boys 11-13 division. He did a great job on the course to secure his first win. With a total of six birdies, he brought in scores of 80 in round 1 and 83 in round 2. Hoham finished the tournament with a total of 163 strokes. The runner up honors went to Brayden Kwait from Naples, FL. Brayden brought in a round 1 score of 95 and a round 2 score of 98 totaling 193.
To finish off a great tournament, long time HJGT player Gina Milazzo from Greenwood Lake, NY finished as our champion. Milazzo has been playing with the HJGT since 2018 with 19 Top 3 finishes under her belt. This week, she secured her first win of the year with scores of 85 and 80, giving her a final score of 165. Evie Denton from Rome, NY took home the runner up honors. Evie scored an 85 in round 1 and a 90 in round 2 for a combined score of 175 strokes. Isabella Borte from North Syracuse, NY and Bethany Wineburg from Homer, NY tied for the top three honors. Both players brought in an impressive score of 189.
