FRANKLIN – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Crystal Springs Summer Junior Open at the Crystal Springs Resort from July 5-6. Boys and girls traveled from all over the globe to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had six divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
First place in the boys 16-18 division went to Brent Glah from Horsham, PA. Glah did a great job on the course to take his first win of the year. With one eagle and one birdie for the tournament, he brought in scores of 82 and 73. Brent finished the tournament with a total of 155 strokes. The runner up honors went to Tighe Kurtzman from Far Hills, NJ. He brought in one eagle, three birdies and a total score of 158. This was his best HJGT score so far this year. Finishing the top three honors in a tie was Jonathan Tecchio from Poughkeepsie, NY and Wenbin Zhao from Qingdao, China. Both players brought in a round 1 score of 81 and 78 in round 2 totaling 159 strokes.
In the boys 14-15 division, Hongtao Gu from Zhuhai, China was our first place finisher. This was Gu’s second tournament of the year and his first win. With a total of eight birdies, he scored a 69 in round 1 and 77 in round 2, his final score was 146 strokes. Ricardo Fu from Hong Kong, Hong Kong took home the runner up honors. His scores of 82 in round 1 and 76 in round 2 gave him a combined total of 158. Haoran Chen from Beijing, China and Will Johnson from Berwyn, PA tied for the top three honors. Both players were able to bring in an impressive score of 162 strokes.
Axel Brandes is a longtime HJGT player and is ranked sixth in the HJGT point rankings. Brandes, from Bernardsville, NJ was able to secure his fourth win in a row with a total of five birdies and a final score of 156. This follows an outstanding win at the North Jersey Summer Junior Open. The runner up honors went to Sebastian Meyer from South Abington Township, PA. With a total of four birdies, he scored an 81 for both days totaling 162. Meyer is a newcomer to the HJGT and has finished in the Top 10 in the five tournaments he’s played in this year. Finishing up the top three honors was Charlie Kaufman from Montville, NJ with a final score of 192 strokes.
First place in the boys under 10 division went to Alex Campanile from Shrewsbury, NJ. Campanile is new to the HJGT and this was his second tournament of the year. With one birdie on the weekend, he brought in a round 1 score of 94 and 91 for round 2. Alex finished the weekend with a total score of 185 strokes.
In the girls 14-18 division, Alexandra Young from Woodstock, NY finished the weekend as our champion. Young did a fantastic job on the course, this was her fifth tournament of the year and her first win. Her scores of 92 and 84 gave her a combined total of 176. Netra Kotta from Irving, TX participated in her first HJGT tournament and placed as the runner up honors. Kotta brought in scores of 94 and 87 totaling 181 strokes.
To finish off a great tournament, Miao Zhuang from Shaghai, China took home the first place win in the girls under 13 division. Zhuang brought in six birdies with scores of 82 in round 1 and 74 in round 2. Her combined score for the tournament was 156 strokes. This was her second win of the year, placing first at the Massachusetts Summer Junior Open at Green Hill.
