LEXINGTON – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the College Prep Summer Series at the University Club of Kentucky from June 17-18. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
In the boys 16-18 division, Benjamin Davenport from Bowling Green, KY finished the weekend as our champion. Davenport secured his victory after a playoff against Brody Sorrell from Evansville, IN. The players were neck and neck coming down the 18th fairway, after a tough break for Sorrell and an even shot from Davenport, they were forced to a playoff. Davenport took control of the playoff to the champion for the weekend. This was Davenport’s first HJGT tournament of 2023. Sorrell finished the weekend with a scorecard of 149 strokes. In round 1 he brought in a score of 75 and a 74 in round 2. Bo Shelton from Glasgow, KY finishes up the top three honors with a total score of 150 strokes for the weekend.
Leading the boys 14-15 division was Micah Sheffer from Brownstown, IN. Sheffer brought in a great scorecard this past weekend. With scores of 73 in round 1 and 74 in round 2, he finished with a total of 147 strokes. Micah has been playing in HJGT tournaments since 2017 but this was his first tournament of 2023 and his first win. The runner up honors went to Will Stuart from Louisville, KY. With four birdies on the weekend, his scores of 76 and 77 gave him a total of 153. This was Will’s 11th HJGT tournament and his 9th Top 10 finish. With a total of 158 strokes, Denton Carter from Frankfort, KY finishes up the top three honors.
Cade Wilson from Louisville, KY was our champion in the boys 11-13 division. This was Wilson’s third HJGT tournament and his first win. He did a great job on the course this past weekend and brought in his lowest score of the year. With four birdies on the weekend, his scores of 75 and 73 gave him a total of 148 strokes. With a total of 158 strokes, Alex Hasselbeck places as our runner up honors. Hasselbeck, from Achorage, KY has been playing with HJGT since 2021, this was his 7th Top 10 finish. He is currently ranked tenth in the HJGT point rankings. Trip Neely from Winchester, KY finishes up in the top three honors. He put up scores of 92 and 80 for a weekend total of 172 strokes.
In the girls 14-18 division, Brooklyn Bohnert from Lanesville, IN was crowned champion after a playoff against Taylor Sargent from Milton, WV. This win follows an outstanding 2nd place finish at the Kentucky Junior Open in April. Bohnert is currently ranked in the Top 30 of HJGT point rankings. Sargent finished the weekend with scores of 75 in round 1 and 78 in round 2 totaling 153 strokes. Abigail Caine from Versailles, KY finishes up in the top three honors with scores of 78 and 77 totaling 155 strokes for the weekend.
To finish off a great weekend, Aubrey Molaison from Waukesha, WI took home first place in the girls under 13 division. With scores of 100 in round 1 and 95 in round 2, she was able to secure the win with 195 strokes. This was Aubrey’s fourth tournament of the year and her third win. She is currently within the Top 10 of HJGT point rankings.
