WEST LAFAYETTE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the College Prep Series at Purdue at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Club from May 27-29. Boys and girls traveled from around the country to participate in the 54-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
In the boys 16-18 division, Henry Stammen from Dublin, OH finished the weekend as our champion. Stammen brought in scores of 78 for round 1, 76 for round 2 and 78 for round 3, along with seven birdies, he ended the weekend with 232 strokes. This was his 7th HJGT tournament of the year and his first win. With a final score of 233, Braden Schnaible took home the runner up honors for the weekend. Schnaible, from Savannah, GA has been playing with HJGT since 2020 and has almost 20 tournaments under his belt. Currently he is within the top 50 players on the HJGT point rankings. Finishing up top three honors was Reis Claybrooke from Mahomet, IL. Claybrooke is an up-and-coming player on tour and finished the weekend with 236 strokes.
Leading the boys 14-15 division was Oscar Frye from Brownsburg, IN. Frye had an excellent scorecard for the weekend. With six birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 81, 82 and 77. Frye finished the weekend with 240 strokes to take home the champion title. Oscar has been playing with the HJGT since 2021 and has placed in the top 5 in each of his tournaments. He will be playing next at the College Prep Series at Notre Dame. With a total of 267 strokes, Brody Eureste from Westfield, IN takes home runner up honors in his first HJGT tournament. Placing in the top three honors from Indianapolis, IN is Sam Kinnett with a score of 268 strokes.
In the boys 11-13 division, James Kauffeld from Cincinnati, OH was our first place finisher for the weekend. Kauffeld has been playing with HJGT since 2022 and has finished in the top 5 in a majority of his HJGT career. This weekend he was able to secure his victory with a weekend total of 300 strokes. James next event with the HJGT will be in December as he will participate in the National Championship presented by Foresight Sports.
In the girls 14-18 division, Reagan Kennedy from Bloomington, IL secured her first HJGT tournament win this weekend. Kennedy finished the weekend with a round 1 score of 79, round 2 score of 82 and 75 for round 3, ending with a total of 236 strokes. Runner up honors went to Hannah Ingersoll from Dyer, IN. In her second tournament of the year, Ingersoll put up scores of 88, 86 and 81 totaling 255 strokes for the weekend. Finishing up top three honors, Amanda Wallace from Greenwood, IN brought in a total of 260 strokes for the weekend.
To finish off a great weekend, Wakana Hill from Flossmoor, IL was crowned the girls under 13 division champion. This was Hill’s second tournament with HJGT and her first win. Her total for the weekend was 297 strokes. Wakana is currently in the top 20 for HJGT point rankings.
