RAVENNA – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the College Prep Series at Kent State at the Windmill Lakes Golf Club from May 27-29. Boys and girls traveled from around the country to participate in the 54-hole tournament. The event had three divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15 and Girls 14-18.
In the boys 16-18 division, Zachary Huscusson from Clinton, OH finished the weekend as our champion. Huscusson secured his victory after he won on the second playoff hole against Joseph Bueme Jr. from Buffalo, NY. Zachary has been playing with HJGT since 2020 and this is his first win with a total of 212 strokes. Bueme finished the weekend also with 212 strokes. On round 1 he brought in a score of 73, round 2 a 71 and 68 for round 3. Bueme has over 40 HJGT tournaments under his belt, we applaud his efforts in the playoff and look forward to seeing how he does in his next tournament. Jordan Kish from Massillon, OH placed in the top three honors with a total of 216 strokes this weekend.
Newcomer to the HJGT, Nathan Chege from Olmsted Falls, OH secured his first place win this weekend in the boys 14-15 division. Chege played an outstanding game and brought in some great scores. With a round 1 score of 81, round 2 of 80 and round 3 of 84, he had a combined total of 245 strokes. Nathan is currently tied for 15th place in the HJGT point rankings. Andrew Pennybacker from Wheeling, WV brought in a fantastic scorecard this weekend. With a score of 83 for round 1 and 3 and a score of 81 for round 2, Pennybacker took home runner up honors with a total of 247 strokes for the weekend. Finishing up top three honors, Shrihan Kondagari from Lewis Center, OH put up scores of 102, 91 and 96 for a weekend total of 289 strokes. Kondagari is in the top 10 for HJGT point rankings.
To finish off a great weekend, longtime HJGT player Marissa Malosh from South Fayette, PA was the first place finisher in the girls 14-18 division. Malosh has played with HJGT since 2018 and has 15 HJGT tournaments under her belt. This weekend she was able to bring home victory with a weekend total of 220 strokes. The runner up honors went to Cara Heisterkamp from Westlake, OH. With scores of 73, 78 and 70 totaling, 221 strokes for the weekend. Placing in top three honors, Gwendolyn Yarnall from East Aurora, NY brought in a total of 238 strokes this weekend.
