HOMEWOOD – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Chicagoland Summer Kickoff at the Calumet Country Club from June 17-18. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had three divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15 and Girls 14-18.
Leading the boys 16-18 division was David Spahr from Elm Grove, WI. Spahr received his lowest score in an HJGT tournament this past weekend. With four birdies on the weekend, he scored a 73 in round 1 and 83 in round 2. He was able to take the win with 156 strokes. With scores of 77 and 82 for a weekend total of 159, Luke Walker from Brandenton, FL places as our runner up honors. Finishing up top three honors with a weekend total of 160 strokes was Dylan Mott from Mokena, IL.
First place in the boys 14-15 division went to Logan Carroll from Saint John, IN. This was Carroll’s first tournament with HJGT and his first win. With scores of 80 and 87, his total for the weekend was 167 strokes. The runner up honors went to Grant Sherrick from Bettendorf, IA. He put up scores of 84 in round 1 and 86 in round 2 totaling 170 strokes for the weekend. Finishing up top three honors, Corbin O’Hara from Granger, IN brought in a total of 175 for the weekend.
To finish off a great weekend, longtime HJGT player Kamyran Golec from Saint John, IN was the first place winner in the girls 14-18 division. Kamyran took home her first HJGT tournament win and brought in her lowest score. She put up scores of 84 for both days totaling 168 for the weekend. With a total score of 171, Madelyn Kwiat from Tinley Park, IL places as our runner up honors. Kwiat has been playing with HJGT since 2021, this was her seventh Top 10 finish. Newcomer, Alison Chung from Northbrook, IL finishes up the top three honors. Chung scored an 84 in round 1 and 89 in round 2 totaling 173 for the weekend.
