CONCORD – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Charlotte Summer Junior Open at the Rocky River Golf Club at Concord this past weekend from July 1-2. Boys and girls traveld from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions; Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
Max Martin from Pinehurst, NC placed first in the boys 16-18 division. Martin brought in an exceptional scorecard for the weekend. With one eagle and six birides on the weekend, he put up scores of 71 and 74. Max secured his first win with a total of 145 strokes. In a three way tie for the runner up honors was Aiden Aguilar from Myrtle Beach, SC, Simon Burgos from Raleigh, NC and Charlie Lazorcheck from Charlotte, NC. All three players were able to bring in an impressive score of 153 strokes.
In the boys 14-15 division, Cooper Cavanaugh from High Point, NC was our first place winner. Cavanaugh did a great job on the course in his first tournament of the year. With six birdies on the weekend, he had scores of 77 and 80. Cooper was able to take the win with a total of 157 strokes. Newcomer Colton Payne from Danville, VA played a great game this past weekend and took home the runner up honors. Payne had one eagle and three birdies along with scores of 77 and 84. He finished the weekend with a total of 161 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors, William Henry from Hendersonville, NC had two scores of 81 totaling 162 for the weekend.
Andrew Blanchette from Davidson, NC placed first in the boys 11-13 division. Blanchette has played in 10 HJGT tournaments and nine of them resulting in a Top 2 finish. This past weekend was no different when he took home his third win of the year. Andrew brought in scores of 78 for round 1 and 81 for round 2 along with three birdies on the weekend. His final score was 159 strokes. Briton Ryan from Mooresville, NC places as our runner up honors. Briton’s scores of 83 and 87 gave him a tournament total of 170 strokes, his best score yet. Brody Ryan from Mooresville, NC finishes up the top three honors with a score of 215 strokes.
To finish off a great weekend, Kami Caraccia from Mooresville, NC played in her first tournament of the year and finished in first place in the girls 14-18 division. With three birdies on the weekend, she had scores of 74 and 81 totaling 155 strokes. The runner up honors went to Alexis Blanchette from Davidson, NC. This was her third event of the year and she brought in her lowest score. With five birdies on the weekend, she had a round 1 score of 85 and an 81 in round 2. Blanchette finished the weekend with a score of 166 strokes. She is currently within the Top 50 of HJGT point rankings.
