BELLVILLE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Central Ohio Junior Open at the Deer Ridge Golf Club from June 24-25. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.

In the boys 16-18 division, Sion Park from Westlake, OH was the first place finisher this past weekend. Park brought in a fantastic scorecard for the weekend. With four birdies on the weekend, he had scores of 78 in round 1 and 75 in round 2. He was able to take the win with a weekend total of 153. This follows a win at the Northern Ohio Junior Open where Sion shot an even score for the weekend. Jacob Harnden takes home the runner up honors with a final score of 155 strokes. Harnden, from Grafton, Canada is a newcomer to the HJGT, he will play next at the Cleveland Summer Junior Open in July. Ted Hoover from Canton, OH finishes up the top three honors with six birdies on the weekend and a total score of 159.

Nathan Chege from Olmsted Falls, OH took home first place in the boys 14-15 division. Chege is new to the HJGT, he has played in five tournaments and placed Top 2 in four of them. This past weekend he was able to take the win with a round 1 score of 83 and 89 in round 2 totaling 172 for the weekend. Nathan holds the eighth spot in the HJGT point rankings. The runner up honors went to David DiGregory with a final score of 177 strokes. DiGregory, from Pittsburgh, PA is an up-and-coming player on the the tour, this was his fifth Top 3 finish. David holds fourth place for HJGT point rankings. Shrihan Kondagari from Lewis Center, OH finishes up the top three honors. Kondagari put up scores of 110 and 109 for a weekend total of 219 strokes.

Leading the boys 11-13 division was Colton Altenburg from Plain City, OH. Altenburg brought in a great scorecard for the weekend. With three birdies on the weekend, he had scores of 85 and 80. Colton secured his win with a total of 165 strokes. This was his second tournament of the year and his first win. Spencer Rice from Columbus, OH took the runner up honors on the weekend. He brought in scores of 84 in round 1 and 85 in round 2 totaling 169 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors, Nicholas Thompson from New Albany, OH with a weekend total of 170 strokes.

To finish off a great weekend, Caroline Zeiger from New Albany, OH was crowned champion in the girls 14-18 division. Zeiger had one birdie on the weekend along with scores of 85 and 87. She secured her first HJGT win with a total of 172 strokes. Caroline is in the Top 15 for HJGT point rankings. Avery Glenn from Centerburg, OH places as our runner up honors. Her scores of 100 in round 1 and 87 in round 2 gave her a total of 187 strokes.
