SOMERVILLE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Central New Jersey Junior Open this past weekend from July 15-16 at the Fox Hollow Golf Club. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had six divisions; Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.

Leading the boys 16-18 division was Ryder Hodgson from Montclair, NJ. Hodgson had an outstanding scorecard for the weekend. With eight birdies on the weekend, he brought in a round 1 score of 36 and 66 for round 2. He was able to take the first place win with a total of 102 strokes. This follows a great first place win at the North Jersey Summer Junior Open where he scored a 137. In a tie for the runner up honors was Eshaan Golchha from Warren, NJ and Scott Sanczyk from Kinnelon, NJ. Golchha with a total of three birdies and scores of 35 and 71 and Sanczyk with a total of five birdies and scores of 37 and 69. Both players finished the weekend with an impressive score of 106.

Will Johnson from Berwyn, PA was our first place finisher in the boys 14-15 division this past weekend. In round 1 he brought in a score of 32 and a 75 in round 2 for a combined score of 107 strokes. This was Johnson’s ninth Top 10 finish of the year. The runner up honors went to Collin Schreiber from Kunkletown, PA. This was Collin’s third event of 2023 and his best score so far. With four birdies and scores of 39 and 71, he finished the weekend with a final score of 110. Augguth Reddy from East Brunswick, NJ played in his first HJGT tournament this past weekend and finished up in the top three honors. His scores of 43 and 82 gave him a final score of 125.

In the boys 11-13 division, Dane Mohap from Nazareth, PA brought in his seventh win of the year this past weekend. With five birdies, he had a round 2 and final score of 66 strokes. Mohap is currently in the Top 3 players of HJGT point rankings. With a final score of 78, Axel Brandes took home the runner up honors for the weekend. Brandes, from Bernardsville, NJ has finished in the Top 3 in the last six tournaments he has participated in. Finishing up top three honors was Xinghao Qian from Scarsdale, NY with a score of 83 strokes.

In the boys under 10 division, Julian Ossorio from Basking Ridge, NJ finished the weekend as our champion. Julian has been playing with the HJGT since 2022 and has placed in the Top 10 in each tournament he has played in. This past weekend he was able to take the win with a score of 104. In his first HJGT tournament, John William Ryan from Greenwich, CT took home the runner up honors on the weekend. Ryan brought in a score of 116 strokes.

To finish off a great weekend, longtime HJGT player Ciana Tzuo from New York, NY placed first in the girls 14-18 division. Tzuo has played with the HJGT since 2021 and has participated in over 30 tournaments. Not to mention she has placed in the Top 10 in over half the tournaments she’s played in. This past weekend she was able to take the win with two birdies and a total of 82 strokes. Tied up for the runner up honors on the weekend was Camryn Hoff from Nazareth, PA and Blake Zarkowsky from Purchase, NY. Both players were able to bring in an impressive score of 84 strokes.
