BUFFALO GROVE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Buffalo Grove Junior Open at the Buffalo Grove Golf Course from June 3-4. Boys and girls traveled from around the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
First place winner in the boys 16-18 division was long time HJGT player, Leo Romano from Chicago, IL. Romano had eight birdies on the weekend and put up scores of 71 and 74 totaling 145. Not only was this his fourth HJGT win but it was also his lowest score since joining in 2019. The runner up honors went to Joey Hoffman from Edina, MN. With a round 1 score of 75 and 78 for round 2, his total for the weekend was 153. Hoffman is currently within the Top 100 of the HJGT point rankings. William Cui from Lake Forest, IL places in the top three honors with a total of 155 for the weekend.
Harrison Stracks from Evanston, IL played in his first HJGT tournament of the year and was the first place winner in the boys 14-15 division. He played an exceptional game this weekend bringing in scores of 83 and 74 along with three birdies. Stracks finished with a total of 157 strokes. With a total of 158, Jack Zeiger took home the runner up honors. Zeiger, from Chicago, IL has played with the HJGT since 2021, this was his fourth Top 3 finish. Tyson Daube from Lincolnshire, IL places in the top three honors with a total of 162. Daube is ranked 12th in the HJGT point rankings.
Long time HJGT player, Brendan Gibson from Columbia, IL led the boys 11-13 division. Gibson has participated in over 20 HJGT tournaments with Top 10 finishes in more than half of them. This weekend he was able to secure the first place win with 165 strokes. Brendan will be playing in the Gateway National Junior Open later this month to defend his champion title. Runner up honors went to Jonah Chung from Chicago, IL, a newcomer to the HJGT. He scored a 93 for round 1 and 90 for round 2 totaling 183 for the weekend.
Our first place finisher in the girls 14-18 division was Lilian She from Buffalo Grove, IL. With five birdies on the weekend, she put up scores of 77 for round 1 and 79 for round 2. Lilian finished the weekend with 156 strokes. The runner up honors went to Kate Krueger from Hartland, WI. Krueger put up scores of 79 for round 1 and 83 for round 2 totaling 162 strokes. Finishing up top three honors was Adalyn Johnston from Green Bay, WI with a weekend score of 163.
To finish off a great weekend, Nicha Chaosaowapa from Chicago, IL won first place in the girls under 13 division. This was Chaosaowapa’s first tournament with HJGT. Her scores of 79 and 88 gave her a total of 167 strokes for the weekend. With a total score of 196, Aubrey Molasion from Waukesh, WI took home runner up honors. Chloe Butler from Chicago, IL finishes up top three honors with a score of 255.
