WEST PALM BEACH – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Banyan Cay Junior Open this past week from June 21-22 at the Banyan Cay Golf Club. Boys and girls traveled from all over the world to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
In the boys 16-18 division, Ryan Fenton from Boynton Beach, FL was the first place finisher. With five birdies, he brought in scores of 79 for both days. Fenton finished the tournament with a total of 158 strokes. This was his first win of the year and he is currently within the Top 50 of HJGT point rankings. The runner up honors went to Ethan Argus from Jupiter, FL. He had a round 1 score of 84 and 80 in round 2 totaling 164 strokes. This was Ethan’s first HJGT tournament of the year, he did a great job on the course and we hope to see him on tour again. Finishing up top three honors with a total of 168 strokes was Kolbe Fielder from North Richland Hills, TX.
Leading the boys 14-15 division was newcomer Bill Shih from Port Saint Lucie, FL. Shih put up scores of 85 and 80 along with two birdies. He was able to secure the first place win with a total of 165 strokes. The runner up honors went to Inigo Friend from Key Biscayne, FL. He brought in scores of 86 in round 1 and 82 in round 2 totaling 168 strokes. This was Friends sixth HJGT tournament of the year and his second Top 3 finish. In a tie for the top three honors was Colin Gelnaw from Tequesta, FL and Justin Laing from Coral Springs, FL. Both players were able to bring in impressive scores of 170 strokes.
In the boys 11-13 division, Xeve Perez from Evans, GA finished the tournament as our champion. Perez secured his victory with scores of 83 in round 1 and 74 in round 2 totaling 157 strokes. This was his second tournament of the year and his second win. In his first HJGT tournament, Lukas Lochnicki took home the runner up honors. Lochnicki, from Northbrook, IL brought in scores of 124 and 107 totaling 231 strokes.
To finish off a great tournament, Callie Nelson from Palm Beach, FL was crowned the girls 14-18 division champion. Nelson is an up-and-coming player on tour, she has participated in four tournaments this year, this is her first win. With three birdies, she had a total score of 173 strokes. The runner up honors went to Darci Wagner from Vero Beach, FL in her first HJGT tournament. She put up scores of 97 and 83 toaling 180 strokes.
