DACULA – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Atlanta Junior Open at the Hamilton Mill Golf Club from June 28-29. Boys and girls travled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions; Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
In the boys 16-18 division, Nicholas Martina from Alpharetta, GA was our first place finisher after having a great two days on the green. With five birdies, he had a round 1 score of 77 and 74 in round 2. Martina finished the tournament with a total of 151 strokes. This is his third tournament of the year and his first win. Cooper Cassidy from Dacula, GA and Michael Krevolin from Atlanta, GA tied for the runner up honors. Both players participated in their first HJGT tournament of the year and were able to bring in an impressive score of 153 strokes.
Whitty Richardson from Atlanta, GA has participated in 10 HJGT tournaments and has placed Top 2 in over half of them, he is also ranked 3rd in the HJGT point rankings. This week, he was able to take the win in the boys 14-15 division with two birdies and only 154 strokes. Newcomer, AJ Gardner from Moyock, NC takes home the runner up honors. With scores of 92 and 81, he finished the tournament with a total of 173 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors, both with total scores of 178 was Zachary Moore from Jefferson, GA and Haoran Zhang from Johns Creek, GA.
In the girls 14-18 division, Yeheejee Lee from Buford, GA finished the tournament as our champion. With two birdies and scores of 86 and 84, she had a total score of 170 strokes. This follows a fantastic first place win at the North Georgia Junior Open where she had a score of 161 strokes. The runner up honors went to Haley Nevins from Buford, GA in her first event of the year. Nevins brought in scores of 89 in round 1 and 85 in round 2, finishing the tournament with a total of 174. Finishing up top three honors, Alexa Slaton from Marietta, GA brought in a total of 179 strokes.
To finish off a great tournament, Sophie Dinh from Duluth, GA was crowned the girls under 13 division champion. This was Dinh’s first tournament with HJGT, she had a fantastic two rounds on the course. Sophie had three birdies and brought in scores of 80 and 82 totaling 162.
