SUWANEE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Atlanta Junior Open at the Bear’s Best Golf Club from May 20-21. Boys and girls traveled from around the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.

Blake Broadaway from Albany, GA was the first place finisher for the boys 16-18 division this past weekend. Broadaway has played with HJGT since 2021 and has placed in the top 5 in all but one of his tournaments. He secured his best score this weekend and placed first with a total of 150 strokes. Blake is currently in the top 10 for HJGT point rankings. Taking runner up honors was Oliver Craig from Sugar Hill, GA. With seven birdies, Craig put up scores of 80 and 74 totaling 154 strokes. Tied for top three honors, Ronak Lalaji from Atlanta, GA and James Perry from Lawerenceville, GA both brought in a total score of 155 for the weekend.

Taking the win for the boys 14-15 division was Cooper Goodson from Kennesaw, GA, in his first tournament of the year, he played an exceptional game this weekend. With eight birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 71 for both days. Goodson was able to finish the weekend with 142 strokes. Taking runner up honors, Whitty Richardson from Atlanta, GA. Richardson put up scores of 77 and 75 for a weekend total of 152 strokes. He currently holds the first place spot for the HJGT point rankings. Finishing up top three honors, Grayson Clark from Rome, GA brought in a total of 166 strokes for the weekend.

girls 14-18
Allison Maher from Suwanee, GA has been playing with HJGT since 2021 and has played in about 10 tournaments where she has placed first in half of them, this past weekend was no different when she secured another first place win in the girls 14-18 division. Bringing in scores of 90 for round 1 and 82 for round 2, she totaled 172 strokes for the weekend. Runner up honors went to Delaney Ratchford from Ooltewah, TN playing in her first HJGT tournament. With one birdie on the weekend, she put up scores of 82 and 94 for a total of 176 strokes.

girls 13 & under
To end off a great weekend, Penelope Philips from Brentwood, TN was the champion in the girls U13 division, this will be her 5th win in a row in an HJGT tournament. Philips put up scores of 95 for round 1 and 97 for round 2 for a weekend total of 192 strokes. She currenty holds the number two spot in the HJGT point rankings. Penelope’s next event with HJGT will be at the Tennessee Junior Open in June.
