NEWNAN, Ga. – The Atlanta, GA Junior Open at Canongate 1 Golf Club, hosted by the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, brought together a talented field of junior golfers from across the country for a weekend of competitive play and resilient performances under shifting November conditions. Canongate’s tree-lined fairways and fast greens demanded patience and precision from start to finish, rewarding those who could adapt and stay composed under pressure.
In the Boys 16–18 Division, Griffin Barnett of Carrollton, Georgia, delivered a statement performance, firing a final-round 68 to finish at three-under-par (141) and secure the title. Barnett’s ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities and stay steady under Sunday’s breeze proved decisive as he edged out Luke Friend of Acworth, Georgia at -1 (143). Wilson Knight of Brooks, Georgia, claimed third at +4 (148), while Riley Callahan of Maineville, Ohio, Jacob Normandeau of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, and Matthew Runckel of Alpharetta, Georgia, tied for fourth at +7 (151).
The Boys 14–15 Division came down to a one-stroke margin, with John Thornton of Newnan, Georgia, edging out Luke Steele of Acworth for the win. Thornton carded rounds of 78 and 77 for a total of +11 (155), using his home-course familiarity and calm demeanor to fend off a late charge. Carter Marsico of Atlanta followed closely in third at +13 (157), while Beau Harrison of Paradise Valley, Arizona, made a strong Sunday push with a 75 to join Sanders Honeycutt, Walter Torbert, and Mason Walcott at +14 (158).
In the Boys 12–13 Division, Lewis Armstrong of Suwanee, Georgia, was in full command from the opening tee shot, capturing the title at five-over-par (149). His opening-round 70 was one of the lowest scores recorded all weekend, setting a tone of excellence that carried him to a 21-shot victory. Josiah Hardee of Alpharetta finished second at +26 (170), followed by Landon Jenkins of Ball Ground at +38 (182).
The youngest champion of the event came from the Boys 10–11 Division, where Powers Flournoy of Macon, Georgia, showcased outstanding poise and consistency to take home the win at +18 (162) with rounds of 78 and 84. Flournoy’s composed performance demonstrated the depth of talent developing at the grassroots level within the HJGT ranks.
On the girls’ side, Emma Otterburn of New York City, New York, claimed the Girls 14–18 Division title with matching rounds of 84–84 (168). Her consistency and mental toughness across both days helped her hold off Wesleigh Myers of Acworth, Georgia, who finished second at +28 (172), and Alexandra Gammill of Fayetteville, Georgia, who made a strong final-round push with a 79 to place third at +30 (174).
