JEFFERSONVILLE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the 54 Hole Philadelphia Junior Open at the Jeffersonville Golf Club from May 27-29. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the tournament. The event had six divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
Leading the boys 16-18 division was Grayson Wood from Fredericksburg, VA. Wood brought in an excellent scorecard this weekend. With eight birdies, he brought in scores of 72 for round 1, 73 for round 2 and 70 for round 3. He took the first place win with a total of 215 strokes this weekend. Grayson has played with HJGT for a little over a year now and this weekend was his 9th first place win. Runner up honors went to Davis Conaway from West Chester, PA with a weekend total of 218 strokes. Conaway has played in 30 HJGT tournaments placing in the top 5 in more than half of them, he is in the top 50 for HJGT point rankings. Placing in top three honors, Brady Manning from Downingtown, PA with round 1 and 2 scores of 74 and 72 for round 3, totaling 220 strokes for the weekend.
Colby Komancheck from Royersford, PA was the first place finisher in the boys 14-15 division this weekend. With four birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 80, 79 and 78, totaling 237 strokes for the weekend. Komancheck has played in four other HJGT tournaments, this was his third first place win. With a total of 239 strokes on the weekend, Jake Aronson from Demarest, NJ took home runner up honors. Aronson is an up-and-coming player on tour and is currently in the top 100 for HJGT point rankings. Enzo Allain from Basking Ridge, NJ placed in top three honors with scores of 79, 81 and 80, totaling 240 strokes for the weekend.
In his first HJGT tournament, Ian Rotto was our first place champion in the boys 11-13 division. Rotto, from Kennett Square, PA did a phenomenal job on the course this weekend. With seven birdies, he brought in scores of 78 for round 1, 79 for round 2 and 82 for round 3. He secured his win this weekend with 239 strokes. Mark Mercer from Dumfries, VA and Logan Stoney from Hillsborough, NJ tied for the runner up honors on the weekend. Both players were able to bring in impressive scores of 258 and did a great job this weekend.
In the boys under 10 division, Xunnan Dang from Newtown Square, PA finished the weekend in first place. With one birdie on the weekend, his two scores of 88 and one of 93 gave him a total of 269 strokes. This was Dang’s third HJGT tournament of the year, he did an outstanding job bringing in some of his best scores yet. His next HJGT tournament will be in Decemeber at the National Championship. He is currently in the top 5 for HJGT point rankings.
Abigail Lynn from Furlong, PA has been playing with HJGT since 2019, this weekend she played in her first tournament since 2021 and was crowned the first place champion in the girls 14-18 division. With four birdies on the weekend, she brought in scores of 79 for round 1, 83 for round 2 and 80 for round 3. She secured the win with 242 strokes. Longtime HJGT tournament player, Amelia Shen from Demarest, NJ took home runner up honors with 246 strokes. This weekend Shen secured her 10th top 3 finish in an HJGT tournament. Finishing up top three honors, Emily Wang from Mclean, VA totaled 250 strokes this weekend. Wang has been playing with HJGT since 2018 and currently is ranked fourth in the HJGT point rankings.
To finish off a great weekend, Avalise Kim won first place in the girls under 13 division. Kim, from Alexandria, PA played in her second HJGT tournament this weekend and brought home her first win. Her total for the weekend was 278 strokes. Alexis Baek from Tysons Corner, VA played in her first HJGT tournament this weekend and placed as runner up honors. She did a fantastic job bringing in a total of 282 strokes.
