PORTLAND – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the 54-hole Connecticut Junior Open at the Quarry Ridge Golf Club from May 27-29. Boys and girls traveled from around the country to participate in the tournament. The event had six divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.

Leading the boys 16-18 division was Maxwell Pawloski from Bethel, CT. Pawloski brought in an impressive scorecard this weekend. With eight birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 73 for round 1, 76 for round 2 and 74 for round 3. He took the first place victory with 223 strokes for the weekend in his first HJGT tournament of the year. Tied for runner up honors was Sascha Robinson from Plymouth, MA and YiWen Wang from Scarsdale, NY. Robinson had 11 birdies on the weekend and brought in scores of 78, 74 and 72 while Wang had five birdies on the weeknd with scores of 78 and 2 scores of 73. Both players had a weekend total of 224 strokes.

First place in the boys 14-15 division went to Will Spencer from Fairfield, CT. This was Spencer’s fourth HJGT tournament of the year and his first win. His scores of 72, 73 and 74 were arguably his best so far this year. Spencer finished the weekend with a total of 219 strokes. The runner up honors went to Kyle Beaudry from Madison, CT. Beaudry put up scores of 83, 72 and 84 totaling 239 strokes. He is currently in the top 50 for HJGT point rankings. With 241 strokes and four birdies on the weekend, Griffin Lawlor from Norwalk, CT finishes as our top three honors.

Lucas Flynn was our first place champion in the boys 11-13 division. From Melrose, MA, Flynn brought in scores of 90 for round 1, 80 for round 2 and 85 for round 3 along with four birdies. He was able to bring in the win with 255 strokes. This is Flynn’s first tournament of 2023 along with his first win. Jeremy Zhang from Lincoln, MA took home runner up honors with scores of 95, 87 and 81 totaling 263 strokes for the weekend. Finishing up top three honors with a score of 298 was newcomer to the HJGT, Henry Barry from Manchester, CT.

With his fifth HJGT tournament win in a row, Liam Rotatori from Stamford, CT is the champion in the boys under 10 division. With four birdies, Rotatori’s scores of 85 in round 1, 91 in round 2 and 87 in round 3 brought him a total of 263 strokes for the weekend. Liam’s next event with HJGT will be this coming weekend at the Major Championship at Crosswinds, we hope to see him bring in another win.

Leading the girls 14-18 division was Isabelle Meltzer from Summit, NJ. Meltzer did a fantastic job on the course this weekend putting up scores of 85, 89 and 84. She secured her first win this weekend with 258 strokes. With a total score of 259, Sienna Wheeler took home runner up honors on the weekend. Wheeler, from Schenectady, NY is currently in the top 50 for HJGT point rankings. Finishing up top three honors with a score of 280 was Veronika Niklin from Staten Island, NY.

To finish off a great weekend, Siyu Zhou from Scarsdale, NY was the first place champion in the girls under 13 division. Zhou has only played with the HJGT for a little over a year and has placed first in over half the tournaments she’s played in. With five birdies and scores of 84, 89 and 85, she totaled 258 strokes on the weekend. The runner up honors went to Grace Rotatori from Stamford, CT with a score of 289. This was Rotatori’s 14th tournament this year and her 13th top 3 finish in a row.
