CELEBRATION – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the 54-Hole Celebration Junior Open at the Celebration Golf Club from May 27-29. Boys and girls traveled from around the world to participate in the tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.

Taking the lead in the boys 16-18 division was Dylan Mason from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Dylan brought in an exceptional scorecard this weekend. With seven birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 71 in round 1, 73 in round 2 and 74 in round 3. He finished the weekend in first place with 218 strokes. This was Dylan’s second win in an HJGT tournament. The runner up honors went to Ting-Wei (Tim) Chang from Taichung City, Taiwan. He brought in scores of 66, 83 and 71 totaling 220 strokes. Finishing up top three honors with a combined score of 225 was Rafael Gutierrez from Mexico City, Mexico.

In the boys 14-15 division, Ryo Murata from Nagano, Japan was our first place winner in his first HJGT tournament of 2023. He had a round 1 score of 75, an even score of 72 in round 2 and a score of 77 for round 3. Murata finished the weekend with a combined total of 224 strokes. Jake Mason from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL placed as runner up honors. With four birdies on the weekend, his scores of 76, 78 and 74 gave him a combined total of 228 strokes. Matias Calderon from Guatemala City, Guatemala and Tantikorn Klinpeng from Rayong, Thailand tied for top three honors with scores of 231. Both players did a great job this weekend.

Playing with the HJGT for less than a year, Wang has placed top 5 in half the tournaments he’s participated in. He was able to secure his win this weekend with a total of 244 strokes. The runner up honors went to Nico Vasto from Jacksonville, FL. Vasto put up scores of 92, 82 and 79 totaling 252. Finishing up top three honors, Jad Mourine from Orlando, FL brought in a total score of 265 for the weekend.

Placing first in the girls 14-18 division this past weekend was Mara King from Longwood, FL. King did a fantastic job this weekend bringing in her best scores of the year. With 11 birdies on the weekend, she put up scores of 70, 74 and 75. She secured the win with 219 strokes. Tied for runner up honors were Gabrielle DeGasperis from Jupiter, FL and Sarah Loza from Winter Garden, FL. DeGasperis brought in scores of 71, 72 and 77 while Loza brought in 74, 75 and 71. Both girls had a total of 220 for the weekend.

To finish off a great weekend, Lilly Parker from North Palm Beach, FL was the champion in the girls under 13 division. With seven birdies, she put up scores of 74 for round 1, 75 for round 2 and 73 for round 3, her weekend total was 222 strokes. Parker has only played in two other HJGT tournaments and placed first in both, she’s in the top 30 in the HJGT point rankings. Playing in her first HJGT tournament since 2021, Kelli Roberts from Calvert City, KY took home runner up honors this weekend with a score of 279 strokes. She is currently in the top 50 in the HJGT point rankings.
