Winston Salem Junior Shootout

 (November 5-6, 2016)

The Tournament at Tanglewood

This weekend the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Winston Salem, North Carolina to take on Tanglewood golf course. It was a beautiful weekend as the golfers were able to handle the tough challenges the course had to offer. Thank you to Tanglewood for allowing HJGT to host this event at their wonderful course. Four age divisions were in play this weekend as Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings were on the line. The top ten finishers in each division will receive points towards the Hurricane Cup. Additionally, the winner of each division will be invited to play in the National Championship held later this year in December.    Boys 16-18 Division

Justin Morgan was the champion for this weekend shooting a 144 to close the tournament. John Hatcher Ferguson finished in sole second place shooting a 152. In third place, with a first day 71 and 154 overall was Zander McCall. Morgan and Ferguson each led the charge with 5 total birdies over the weekend. Morgan had 6 more holes with par or better than the closest competition. Throughout the weekend all the young men showed excellent sportsmanship.       Boys 14-15 Division

The hometown hero this week was Rob Salisbury.  Hailing from Winston Salem, North Carolina, Salisbury was able to shoot a 143 overall.  This gave him the best finish of the event across all divisions. Hayden Blair, of Tullahoma, Tennessee came in second place with a 147.  Blair shot a first round 69, which was the only under par round of the event. Mitchell Hummel, of Haymarket, Virginia rounded out the top three. Blair and Salisbury tied for the most birdies in the division, with 7 each.  All of the golfers had a great time competing against one another and look forward to competing again in the future.       Girls 14-18 Division

Taylor Waller, of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania led the charge.  She fired off a second round 76 on route to a total of 159 and the victory. Maya White, of Fletcher, North Carolina finished in second with a 168. Aiyana Chopra rounded out the top three. Waller finished the event with the most pars and birdies in the division, at one point going 13 straight holes at par or better. These young women have dreams of playing in college in a few years, and with effort and dedication their futures are certainly bright.       Boys 11-13 Division
