The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to St. Louis, MO on August 29-30 for The St. Louis Kickoff. Players enjoyed perfect weather and a soft Far Oaks Golf Course for ideal scoring conditions. Saturday’s opening round produced low scores for the morning groups. Sunday brought an abundance of sunshine and another day of ideal scoring. Additionally the HJGT was extremely excited to host its first ever event in the St. Louis area with its recent merging with the Plantations Junior Golf Tour. Winners in each division received an invitation to the 2015 HJGT National Championship. Additionally, the top ten finishers in each division received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup.


Brian Whitson of Dexter, MO would lead wire to wire to claim the title in the Boys 15-18 Division at The St. Louis Kickoff. Whitson would shoot rounds of 73-73 to claim a one shot win over Reilly Ahearn of St. Louis, MO. Whitson would begin his final round with a slim one shot lead, but birdies on the 1st and 3rd holes would help Whitson extend his lead. Whitson would add another birdie on the 9th to turn in 2 under par. Whitson would add yet another birdie on the 11th hole before playing the next six holes in 5 over par, but a birdie on the last would allow Whitson to claim a one shot victory. Arguably the best round of the day came from Joe Terschluse of Chesterfield, MO who would finish in 3rd place after a stellar final round 70 (-2). Terschluse would begin the final round five shots back of Whitson, but after an eagle on the opening hole and birdies on the 9th and 11th hole Terschluse would end his round just two shots back of the leader. Bennett Tiefenbrunn would lead in the most birdies made with 9 total. Brian Whitson would lead in par 5 scoring averaging an impressive 4.7 shots over the weekend. Reilly Ahearn would have an impressive 16 hole streak without a bogey on the weekend.

Michael Bugyis of Des Peres, MO would also lead wire to wire to claim the title in the Boys 13-14 Division. Bugyis would post an impressive round of 73 (+1) on Saturday to take a slim two shot lead into the final round over Ian Johnston. On Sunday Bugyis and Johnston would struggle posting rounds of 82 while Joe Avery would post a final round of 79 to finish just three shots back of Bugyis. Bugyis and Johnston would both share in most birdies made on the weekend with 5 total. Bugyis and Blake Rief would both lead in par 3 scoring averaging 3.3 strokes over the weekend. Ian Johnston would lead in par 4 scoring averaging 4.1 strokes. Joe Avery would lead in par 5 scoring averaging 5.0 strokes.

Megan Propeck would post two very impressive rounds over the weekend to claim the title in the Girls 11-14 Division at The St. Louis Kickoff. Propeck would post rounds of 81-81 over the weekend. Propeck had an impressive seven birdies in the final round including a stretch of three birdies in a four hole stretch. Isabella Arro would claim a runner up finish behind Propeck with a 36 hole total of 205. In par 3 scoring Propeck would average 3.9 strokes and Arro 4.7 strokes. In par 4 scoring Propeck would average 4.3 strokes while Arro would average 5.4 strokes. Congratulations to both players! Weather: Day 1- Low 68. High 85. Partly cloudy skies.
