Reece Massei was raised in a golf family and found his love for golf at a young age. Massei started playing in HJGT tournaments when he was just a freshman in high school. Since playing in the HJGT golf tournaments, he has had the opportunity to play in the National Championship Weekend twice! Playing on the tour for a couple years Massei continued to play because he loved the management and layout of the HJGT tournaments. During Massei’s time with the HJGT he was able to meet new friends from around the country and keeping in touch with them in various tournaments. Not only did the HJGT expose him to a variety of college coaches, Massei mentions that the tournaments prepared him for college because they were a competitive style of play and larger fields. With hard work, dedication, and the preparation by the HJGT, Massei committed to the United States Naval Academy (USNA).
Massei wanted to challenge himself at the next level which is why he chose to continue his golf career at the USNA. His scoring average is 72 and his goal for his golf career is to “always play to win and grip it to rip it”.
Massei looks up to Brook Koepka because he has been following him since before, he won a major. Massei expressed that it was awesome to see him break out into one of the best golfers in the world. He says that if he could play anyone 1v1 is would be his favorite golfer, Brook Koepka by far.
Massei’s advice for young golfers starting the recruiting process is to not wait for coaches to email you. He says you have to email the coaches first and email them often if you want to be noticed. He says his one thing he would change if he could, would be to study more in high school.
We are so excited to see what the future holds for Reece Massei at the US Navel Academy and will always be cheering him on!
