The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Ocean View, New Jersey on June 7-8 for the Hurricane Tour Shop Series at Shore Gate Country Club. This two day, 36-hole tournament featured perfect weather conditions for our golfers to challenge and attack this well laid out and meticulously designed course. Saturdays round began at 12:30pm with a single tee start followed by Sundays 10:30am start. Winners in all divisions received an invite to the Hurricane Tour Shop Invitational Aug. 9-10 in Myrtle Beach, SC, as well as an automatic bid into the 2014 Tour Championship December 6-7 and Mid Season Invitational June 22-24. Top 10 finishers also received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, the Hurricane Cup, and Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking.
Boys 15-18 After two days of fierce competition, Otto Voettiner of Haymarket, Virginia was crowned the Boys 15-18 Age Division Champion. He shot a tournament total of 157 (79, 78) in his first ever Hurricane Tour appearance where he had an incredible up and down out of the right green side bunker to save par and seal his first place finish. Otto had 2 birdies in his first round on Saturdaybut what really won it for him were his 3 straight pars he had on the final 3 holes. Nick Miller of Oradell, New Jersey placed second behind Voettiner this weekend, carding a score of 158 (75, 83) for the tournament. Miller also had the most birdies in his division with a total of 4, 3 came in his first round on the front side and 1 to close out his round on hole 16 on Sunday. Third place went to Hamilton Square, New Jersey’s own Mike Winter after he launched a two day total of 160 (87, 73). His impressive final round of even par to launch himself in to third place consisted of two birdies and an eagle all found on the back side.
Girls 15-18 Wanye, Pennsylvania’s own Gabriella Kim was the Girls 15-18 Age Division Champion with a score of 161 (81, 80) in her two days of tough competition. Kim thoroughly plotted her way through the tough 36 holes of competition to become the Champion of her division. For her second win this year. While she had no birdies she had the most pars in her division, which is what catapulted her to victory. Esther Park of Wilmington, Delaware placed second behind Kim this weekend with a tournament total of 168 (79, 89). Park also had three birdies which was the most in her division. Ceilie Reynolds of Eatown, New Jersey was the 15-18 Girls division third place finisher with a tournament total of 174 (85, 89). She had two birdies on the weekend one for each round.
William Huang of Princeton, New Jersey was the Boys 11-14 Age Division Champion with a weekend total of 155 (77, 78). His win came after narrowly escaping the second place finisher by one stroke. Huang also carded four total birdies which tied for the most in his division after two days of tournament play. Stephan Sul of Old Bridge, New Jersey was the second place finisher after he fired a tournament total of 156 (79, 77). Stephan came out firing on the backside of the second round shooting one under. Third place this weekend went to Carter Nunez of South Orange, New Jersey after he battled through the course to shoot a total of 158 (79, 79), with three birdies for the tournament.
Girls 11-14 Tiya Chowdary of Montgomery, New Jersey was the girls 11-14 age Division champion after shooting a 160 (81,79) tournament total for her second win of the season. She had birdies on her card for both rounds both on the backside. Chowdary also had the pleasure of participating in the Drive, Chip, and Putt Championship at Augusta National for juniors, held day’s before The Masters this year. Kate Owens of Suwanee, GA placed second after she bounced back from her first round (101) to shoot fifteen strokes lower in her second round (86) which gave her a weekend total of 187. In her impressive play for the second round she had a birdie on hole five. Taylor Miano of Dobbs Ferry, New York finished third this weekend after she fired two rounds of consistent play which gave her a tournament total of 194 (97, 97).
