Hurricane Tour Q & A with Zach Kas

Zach, it’s great to see you again! Share with our fans about your time here at HJGT.

ZK: My time at HJGT was incredible. Living in Orlando, FL for the Summer is obviously awesome! But the work experience and skills I gained throughout my time at HJGT have already helped me so much throughout my career.

How did HJGT prepare you for your role with the Atlanta Hawks?

ZK: HJGT helped prepare me for my role with the Hawks in so many ways. Working in sales, I do a lot of cold calling throughout the day, something I had not experienced before HJGT. The Hurricane internship experience is very hands on. You’re basically doing the work of full-time employees. This is the best kind of experience one can receive in my opinion, as I feel like my experience at HJGT has played a major role in helping me thrive with the Hawks.

Do you have a favorite moment or memory at HJGT?

ZK: Yes, my favorite moment as an HJGT intern was the opportunity to travel. Typically, office interns stay at the home base in Orlando, but I actually had the chance to travel to Chicago for a conference to help recruit future interns. I love exploring new cities and making a difference. I’m very grateful for the opportunity HJGT gave me.

What advice would you give to an incoming HJGT intern?

ZK: My advice for new HJGT interns is to truly challenge yourself. I served as the Recruitment and Organizational Development Intern and I had the chance to also help lead our Sponsorships effort with about a month left in my semester. I LOVED having the ability to test my skills in different areas and wish I would have taken advantage of that sooner in the semester when I had the opportunity to. The HJGT Internship program is the perfect opportunity to truly test your skill set in sports. If you put yourself in a position to thrive at HJGT, you can thrive with any professional or college sports team!

As you know, company culture is important at HJGT. What can you share with others about the culture here?

ZK: So, I actually have a cool story about the culture at HJGT. All throughout the semester, a group of my internship class would juggle a soccer ball and keep track of our record. We set a goal for ourselves that by the end of our internship we would get over 100. On our last day we stayed an hour after work and we FINALLY got over 100.This in my opinion is a testament of the family culture that the HJGT Internship program provides.

Is there a specific member of the Hurricane Family who made an impact on you as a mentor?

ZK: Throughout my time at HJGT, I had the opportunity to be desk mates with Sara Even, who was the VP of Marketing at the time and has since been promoted to President. Finding mentors is all about how much you actually care to be mentored. Sara is someone who constantly pushed me to lengths I didn’t even know I was capable of. She saw the potential in me and gave me every opportunity to reach that. What I admire most about Sara is that she not only helped me professionally, but she truly invested in me personally as well. Sara is and forever will be someone I trustfully with both my personal and professional life, and I’m thankful for her mentorship and leadership.
