Hilton Head Junior Challenge

 (October 19-20, 2016)

The Sun was Shining on the Island

This weekend the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Hilton Head, South Carolina to take on Eagle’s Pointe Golf Club. It was a beautiful weekend as the golfers were able to handle the tough challenges the course had to offer. Thank you to Eagle’s Pointe Golf Course for allowing HJGT to host this event at their wonderful course. Five age divisions were in play this weekend as Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings and AJGA PBE Stars were on the line. The top ten finishers in each division will receive points towards the Hurricane Cup. Additionally, the winner of each division will be invited to play in the National Championship held later this year in December.    Boys 16-18 Division

The champion in this division was Erik MacDonald, out of Braintree, Massachusetts. Erik took home the trophy after a two-day total of 151. Putting up a great fight and coming in at second was Alan Smith, who shot 152 to end the tournament. The third place finisher was Mark Laken, who finished with 153 through 36 holes. Only two strokes separated first and third. Smith made a fantastic save from the trees for birdie on the final hole to make a late charge, but MacDonald was able to get back up and finish strong. Each young man showed excellent sportsmanship this weekend. It was a pleasure to meet each contestant and HJGT hopes to see all of them very soon.     Boys 14-15 Division

Second place went to Jack Tickle, while third place went to Jason Cruise Jr. Hutson also lead all competitors in the division with 7 birdies during play. Many of the young men this weekend have dreams of playing at the next level. If they keep up the hard work and dedication they will be on their way to signing letters of intent.       Girls 14-18 Division
