College Prep Series at Wisconsin

 (October 1-2, 2016)

It’s not Cheesy to win

This weekend the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the University Ridge Golf Course. It was a beautiful weekend as the golfers were able to handle the tough challenges the course had to offer. Thank you to the University of Wisconsin golf course University Ridge for allowing HJGT to host this event at their wonderful course. six age divisions were in play this weekend as Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings were on the line. The top ten finishers in each division will receive points towards the Hurricane Cup. Additionally, the winner of each division will be invited to play in the National Championship held later this year in December.    Boys 16-18 Division

The champion for this division could not be decided with just 36 holes, it took 40. There two gentlemen each shot a 148 for the weekend. Our eventual champion Samuel Anderson capitalized on a poor tee shot to par hole 4 for the win. In second place Ricky Leme out of Lake Villa, IL During the playoff Ricky had put it all on the table and forced many long puts from Anderson. Rounding the top 3 finishers, Jonathon Duggan who was able to shoot a 151 to secure third. Jonathon was not able to better his day 1 score but kept in contention throughout the weekend. Sam did finish with the most Birdies during his turnout. Following with the next most Birdies was Max Forseth and second place finisher Leme. Leme was able to staying tight with first place by not Bodeying holes. 28 of the 36 holes Leme shot better than Par. Both first and second place split who shot the best in the division on the front and back 9. Anderson took the back the lead that Leme would build on the front 9. Each young man this weekend showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the tournament. It was a pleasure to meet each contestant this weekend and HJGT hopes to see all of them very soon   Boys 14-15 Division   Again there was another playoff in this division. This one between previous champion Matthew Garside and this weekend’s champion James Gilmore, each shooting 149 for the tournament. This playoff took an extra 6 holes to solidify a champion. Gilmore was able to withstand Garside hitting a Birdie on the final whole of the tournament. Blake Wisdom from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin finished in third place shooting a 154. One thing that remained strong is the short game for these contestants. Before the playoff the champion Gilmore and three others each tied for most Birdies for the division. The top two finishers split the leaderboard for the front and back 9 during play this weekend. One participant this tournament shot an Eagle during play. His name was Brock Hlinak out of Kaukauna, Wisconsin.  Many of the young men this weekend have dreams of playing at the next level, if they keep up the hard work and dedication they will be on their way to signing letters of intent.   Boys 11-13 Division   From the very beginning Brock Snyder was on a mission to bring home the championship back to Ames, Iowa. Brock shot 4 over for day one and closed the tournament with an 88 on the second day. He was still able to walk out with one of the better scores of any division. Snyder was able to shoot Par of better on 20 of the 36 holes. During play of round 1, Snyder was able to go Bogey free for 5 holes. The front 9 is where he was able to make his mark bettering his scores than the back 9. Synder showed great class in his winnings this weekend. We hope to see a lot more of Snyder and watch him progress into a young man who we may just one day watch on the television.  Weather September 24-25, 2016:
