Weekend Preview: March 16-17

Another week is coming to a close, but that means that there is golf again this weekend! March 16-17 on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour will feature seven tournaments across six different states. We have tournaments in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Kentucky. Let’s dive into previews for all seven tournaments this weekend.

Fountains Country Club
Fountains Country Club, Lake Worth, Florida

College Prep at Louisville

Our first tournament of the weekend takes us to the University of Louisville in Kentucky. The host club this weekend will be The University of Louisville Golf Club. The University of Louisville Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course designed by Spencer Holt that offers a challenging yet fun experience to all skill levels. There are seven tee box options to choose from that range from 5,000 to 7,200 yards and are accommodating to all age groups. The lush bentgrass greens and fairways make for a turf experience that is unlike anywhere else in Kentucky. The course is accompanied by a 22-acre practice facility with a two-tiered bent grass/zoysia practice range, an expansive short game facility, and Pro-V1 range balls.

Looking ahead to the weather in Kentucky this weekend, it will be a very pleasant weekend. Saturday is looking to have mostly sunny skies with clouds rolling through throughout the day. The high on Saturday will be 63 with a low of 41 at night. It looks not to be too windy either. Sunday will cool off a little bit with the high being 53 as opposed to 63 the day before. In addition, the skies will be mostly cloudy with winds reaching up to 20 mph. If you stay until the night, beware. The low on Sunday night will be a brisk 29 degrees. The forecast will be nice and should prove to provide nice conditions for golf.

Dallas Spring Junior Open

Looking at the Lonestar State as the next host for the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. This weekend’s tournament host will be the beautiful Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas. The Waterchase Golf Club is Located in the heart of the DFW metroplex. The Par 72 layout has five par threes and five par fives and features an exceptional variety of holes.  From tree-lined doglegs to split fairways, the risk and reward opportunities are abundant.  A cascading waterfall between the ninth and eighteenth greens highlights the course’s beauty.  It is this combination of challenge and beauty that has helped Waterchase achieve such high acclaim.

After hearing about how beautiful the course is, let’s see how beautiful the weather will be this weekend in Fort Worth. Well, there is good news and there is bad news. The good news is that Sunday’s weather looks nice for golf. The bad news is that Saturday will bring some rain which may prove to be challenging. Saturday will have a high of 62 with clouds in the morning and on and off showers throughout the afternoon. The chance of rain sits neatly at 50%. Sunday will be drier and warmer than Saturday. The weather will still be mostly clouds in the sky but there is no rain predicted for the day. The high on Sunday will be 66 with a low of 46. If you’re traveling to Texas this weekend, remember to bring an umbrella.

Lake Worth Junior Open

Looking at our first of two tournaments in Florida this weekend, we travel to Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Florida. At the heart of the Fountains Country Club is their two exceptionally well-maintained championship golf courses, designed by world-renowned golf architects Robertt Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin. The West Course starts at the Main Clubhouse, wanders through the community, and finishes with our #18 signature hole back at the Clubhouse. The course is engaging and member-friendly, no matter your handicap.

Looking at the weather this weekend, this writer isn’t sure if it is spring or summer down there in Florida. It is going to be hot and hotter this weekend. Saturday will provide a high of 88 (yikes) and a low of 67. The nice thing is that it is expected to be mostly cloudy, but the UV will be up to 7. Sunday will be similar but with some sunshine coming through the clouds throughout the day and temperatures peaking at 88 again. The UV index will get up to 9 that day. The two keys to surviving Florida this weekend are going to be water (lots of it!!!) and sunscreen. Best of luck down in Florida this weekend!

Laurel Hill Junior Open

We travel to Virginia for this weekend’s next tournament. The tournament in Virginia this weekend takes place at the Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Virginia. The Laurel Hill Golf Club is an impressive 18-hole course on land that formerly housed the D.C. Department of Corrections facility at Lorton. Paying homage to the early architects of American golf, Love’s objective was to let the natural beauty of the property dictate the character of the course. By all accounts, he has succeeded with the golf press already describing the course with accolades like “one-of-a-kind” and “visually stunning”.

This weekend is looking like very nice weather for golf out in Virginia. Saturday should have mostly sunny skies with light winds. The high will be 66 with a low of 45 at night. Sunday looks to have intervals of clouds and sunshine with a high if 65. Expect the winds to pick up a little to 15-20 mph. There will be scattered clouds mixed in with the sunshine as well. It is shaping up to be a nice weekend in Virginia!

Philadelphia Spring Kickoff

Looking at Pennsylvania, the Talamore Country Club will play host to the Tour this weekend. The Talamore Country Club has everything from outdoor weddings to celebrations, golf outings to mitzvahs, social events, or business functions, Talamore is where exceptional meets spectacular. Immersed in a historical setting surrounded by natural beauty and picturesque settings, the staff of experts at Talamore will help you realize the day, event, and celebration you and yours deserve. Located in historic Montgomery County Pennsylvania, the award-winning venues, lush botanical gardens, and amenities of Talamore are second to none. Exceptional events tailored to your unique needs.

The weather this weekend looks pleasant in Pennsylvania. The high for Saturday will be 61 with a low of 44. Saturday will be mostly sunny, which will give all of our golfers a nice little tan. Sunday is going to cool off with the high being 58 and the low dropping down to 35. Be prepared to bring a jacket for Sunday. But you should be able to enjoy the pleasant weather on Saturday.

Stonebridge Junior Open

Over to North Carolina, we go for our second-to-last tournament of the weekend at Stonebridge Golf Club. Stonebridge Golf Club has a course that winds its way through gently rolling forest land. The Stonebridge Golf Club is an 18-hole Championship Golf Course located in Monroe, North Carolina. Stonebridge was built in 1997 by course designer Richard Osbourne. Rather than build a golf course into a residential development, his mission was to begin with over 650 untouched acres and find the golf course that was already there. Making use of the scenic views, Stonebridge Golf Club came to life and became the course that golfers have come to know as one of the best Charlotte area golf courses to play.

The weather this weekend will be pleasantly warm in North Carolina. Saturday’s high will be 76 with partly cloudy skies. The low that night is a nice 51 degrees. Sunday cools off, but barely. The high for Sunday will be 73 degrees with mostly cloudy skies rolling in. It should be a great weekend in North Carolina.

Winter Garden Spring Junior Open

The last tournament of the weekend finds us back in Florida. Stoneybrook West will host the tournament this weekend. Stoneybrook West ensures to beautifully blend the natural landscape of West Orange County to create one of the top public championship courses in the greater Orlando area. Our dramatic rolling fairways, touched by water on fourteen holes, are encased by towering berms and profound bunkering. We also offer a complete practice area with an aqua driving range, practice chipping area, and practice putting green. Conveniently located just 20 minutes from Downtown Orlando and a mere 15 minutes from the main gate at Walt Disney World Resort, Stoneybrook West Golf Club is an accessible retreat for both local and visiting golfers. Experience a top-rated round of golf while your family explores the wonders of Disney World, Epcot Center, MGM, and Universal Studios.

Just as with the other Florida tournament, it is going to be hot with high UV in Florida this weekend. Saturday will provide a high of 88 and a low of 67.
