From February 24-25, 2024, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Dallas Junior Open at Southern Oaks. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format and with a field of four divisions, including the Boys 16-18 Division, Boys 14-15 Division, Girls 14-18 Division and Girls U13 Division. Will Porter from Monroe, LA was the first-place finisher of the Dallas Junior Open at Southern Oaks. Will Porter scored 73 and 74, giving him a combined total of 147 strokes — making him the first place winner at Dallas Junior Open.
We had the chance to interview Will after his win at Dallas Junior Open.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THE HURRICANE JUNIOR GOLF TOUR?
– “Each event has been well run and it gives me another source for filling my schedule with competition. ”
FAVORITE MEMORY ON THE TOUR SO FAR?
– “Having good finishes and driving the 395 yard par 4 14th at Southern Oaks in Texas to have any easy 2-putt birdie late in a final round. ”
HOW DID IT FEEL TO GET YOUR MOST RECENT WIN ON THE TOUR?
– “Was very glad to win and shoot a decent final round in the high winds. ”
WHAT IS THE COMPETITION LIKE WHEN YOU PLAY ON THE TOUR?
– “Only played 2 events so far with HJGT and both fields were small. There were a handful of good players in each. ”
HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A TOURNAMENT?
– “I practice every day anyway, but I especially focus on covering all the major aspects of my game each day in the week before an event.”
WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER ASPIRATIONS?
– “I want to play D1 golf in the immediate future then see if I can possibly play at the professional level. ”
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM COLLEGE AND WHY?
– “I don’t have a dream school. I want to play where I can help a team and have a coach who can help me develop as an elite player and a good man.”
FAVORITE ATHLETE (ANY SPORT) AND WHY?
– “Tiger….just for his sheer competitiveness and Wilt Chamberlain for being a beast of an athlete in an era before training was as advanced as it is now.”
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM COURSE TO PLAY ON?
– “Bandon Dunes.”
WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
– “I actually have a very specific reason why I wear 2 gloves. ”
