After battling on this tough course, one stood tall as champion.
Tyler Morton brought home the win in the Chicagoland Summer Finale at Prairie Landing. Shooting a -3 for the tournament, Morton proved that he was able to conquer the rugged course that lay ahead of him.
Catching up with Tyler Morton
Morton beat his second-place opponent Tyler Short by a significant margin of 6 strokes. In the first round, Morton held the lead shooting 70 while Short shot 75. During the second round, Morton held onto his lead by shooting 71 on the day and Short shot 72.
We asked Tyler Morton how it felt to get his most recent win on the tour and he said, “It felt great to play solid both days at a very challenging course. I kept up the steady play down the finishing stretch even when my playing partners were putting on the pressure.” Morton enjoyed how smooth his rounds were while he played in the tournament at HJGT. With little wait times for his group, Morton didn’t face problems on the course.
Before his tournaments, Morton spent a lot of time putting and playing the course about a week before. This allows him to become more comfortable with situations he could stumble upon in his next tournament. Morton said, “I really like to get reps in the days before, so once I arrive at the tournament I am prepared and ready to play.”
In the future, Morton wants to play for a like-minded team in college and professionally if he can. Morton does his best every day to get 1% better and tries not to worry too much about where he is playing in the future. Morton said, “Golf has shaped my life and introduced me to my closest friends today. I put in countless hours every day and know it will pay off in the long run.”
