It has been a hot summer in Florida so far, but it doesn’t match the scorching trail Travis Reaves is blazing this season.
The Lake Mary, FL native had a massive win at the Jacksonville Summer Junior Open. Reaves shot one over par for the weekend, including a 75 on Saturday and a blistering 68 on Sunday.
The future’s looking bright for Reaves in the next tournament he enters.
Inside the Ropes with Travis Reaves
Reaves claims that the right preparation is key to playing his best in the tournament.
“During the week I work with my coach Dave Phillips at Timacuan and he helps to improve what I feel to be most important for the upcoming tournament.”
Most recently, Reaves has been perfecting his launch angle to improve the distance off the tee and his chipping around the green. The hard work doesn’t stop there for Reaves. Before he gets on the course, he will usually warm up at the range before spending 30 minutes practicing his putting. With this kind of work ethic, Reaves has been looking sharper than ever!
At such a young age, Reaves is already wise beyond his years as he said, “I have a great mom and dad and coach who supports me in my journey.”
He works extremely hard and nothing is handed to him. Having a great work ethic and a grateful heart at such a young age is an accomplishment. He loves the game of golf just as much as he loves the people he has met along the way.
After his most recent win in the 10U Division, Reaves felt excellent about the win and said, “I am trying to compete for Player of the Year in the 10U division and this win helps me to achieve this goal.”
As of this publication, Reaves sits at the top of the POY point standings with 16,750 points. If he keeps playing like this, he is well on his way to bringing home the hardware.
