The competition was fierce at the Virginia Summer Junior Open and many spectacular young golfers showed out.
One player in particular stood out on his way to victory in the Boys 11-13 Division.
That golfer was none other than 13-year old Terence McAuley of Haymarket, VA.
McAuley and his family didn’t have to travel too far from home to pick up his first win on the Hurricane Tour. After shooting an impressive 76-78 and holding on for a 5-stroke victory, we caught up with McAuley to learn more about this rising star.

McAuley told us that to prepare he, “Likes to look at the course ahead of time and think about where I should hit my shots.” Not only does McAuley do that, but he also will consider others’ advice and look for feedback from other tournaments to improve his game constantly. Terence always practices hard and continuously looks for good tips to improve his golf game.
McAuley also really likes playing for the HJGT and competing at the tournaments. Having great courses and great people, Terence feels that the people who put on the tournaments are always helpful and friendly. “They always pick fun and challenging courses” stated Terence when we asked him what he enjoys most about the HJGT. Not much is better than people coming together for the love of the game!
Looking down the road, McAuley wants to make it to the elite tournaments. Eventually, he hopes to become a pro golfer and win a major tournament like The Masters. McAuley was born the same day Charl Schwartzel, who won The Masters back in 2011.
In the meantime, McAuley will continue to build his junior golf resume. But keep an eye out for this young man. One day, we just might see him slipping on a green jacket.
