Player Spotlight: Preston Tolnar wins big over Memorial Day Weekend

When it comes to Memorial Day weekend most people think of hot dogs, hamburgers, and the pool. But, Preston Tolnar from Canfield, Ohio had something else on his mind that weekend and that was to win. Over the Memorial Day weekend, Preston brought home the gold in the Boys 10 & Under Division! Not only did this mark the end of the school year, but also the beginning of Summer for Preston. Being able to win felt great for Preston. He told us, “ It felt great to win over the holiday weekend close to home where most of my family was able to attend.” With Preston already having 73 junior tournament wins under his belt, he can’t wait to qualify for the Hurricane Cup!

In this holiday weekend tournament, the phenom was able to shoot a combined 228 total strokes on the three-day tournament. Preston loves playing in these multi-day events on some high quality courses. He even gave our staff a shoutout saying, “Hurricane runs great events and their staff is always friendly. HJGT makes you feel right at home.” After getting another big win, it is easy to see that the course is definitely like a second home to Preston! When going for the gold in tournaments, preparation is key. If the tournament is close to home, Preston will practice at his home course and he will do so for about “90 minutes”. But, if there is a bit of travel, then Preston will practice for around “45 minutes before and after each round. I always try to spend about 65% of the time on my short game.”

More about Preston Tolnar

We wanted to know a bit more about Preston and his interests. Not only does he love the game of golf, but he also likes the game of basketball which is a close second. With golf being his favorite sport, he hopes to pursue the game in college and hopes to attend Florida Gulf Coast University someday! In his spare time, Preston loves to spend his time with his mom and dad, family, and friends. When it’s too cold to golf in his hometown during the winter, he takes his talents down to Hilton Head Island, SC, and Ft. Myers, FL to get some practice in.

For his career aspirations, he hopes to play on the PGA Tour one day. Just like his favorite golfers Scottie Scheffler, Arnold Palmer, Phil Mickelson, and Jack Nicklaus. If Preston doesn’t make it to the PGA Tour, he would like to follow in his father’s footsteps and be a club pro.

Make sure to stay on the lookout for Preston Tolnar as he continues his domination in the game of golf!
