Jacksonville, Florida (October 14-15) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to beautiful Taylors, SC this weekend to host the Major Championship at Pebble Creek.  The weather was gorgeous all weekend at this premier venue.  The tournament featured over 65 players of the southeast’s best players with competitors from Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina, including some other international players from Mexico and South America.  The tournament was ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard, South Carolina Junior Golf Association, and also provided American Junior Golf Association stars.  Stakes were high this weekend as this tournament was one of the tour’s major championships.  For each of the tour’s major championships, 1.5 times the point structure will be awarded for the top ten finishers.  The weather this weekend featured temperatures in the 70’s and sunny skies.   The Boys 15-18 Division winner was Keenan Huskey, a local product from nearby Greenville.  Huskey was very consistent all weekend after posting an impressive 72 on both Saturday and Sunday to finish with an even overall score of 144.  Huskey, the fields first place winner, lead the boys’ with birdies (6), most pars or better (83.3%), and par 4 performance (4.14 avg.).  Coming in a close second place, also from Greenville, was Jackson Weede.  Weede nearly had an identical score as the first place winner after posting a respectable 73 on both Saturday and Sunday finishing with a 146 over the weekend.  Weede, the boys’ second place winner, added to his impressive weekend as he came in first place with most pars (25) and par 5 performance (4.50).  Rounding out the boys’ older division from Mexico City was Berna Martinez.  After posting a sluggish 76 on Saturday, Martinez secured a trophy after he shot a quality 72 on the final round on Sunday.  Alex Handy, from Aiken, was also very impressive this weekend after he finished with 1 Eagle and led the group in most par breakers with 16.7%.    Gonzalo Martinez, another Mexico City product, came in first place in our par 4 performance with a 2.88 average.   The Girls 15-18 Division was not as tight of a battle as Diane Lim; from Norcross, GA, ran away with the first place trophy after shooting a 75 on Saturday and a phenomenal 72 on Sunday to finish with an overall score of 147.  Diane Lim, the ladies first place trophy winner, led the girls in all statistical categories including: birdies (4), most par breakers (11.1%), most pars (23), most pars or better (75%), par 3 performance (3), par 4 performance (4.18), and par 5 performance (5.17). Coming in second place from Greenville was Victoria Huskey.  Huskey shot an 84 on Saturday and improved her score to a 77 on the final round on Sunday.  The third place trophy was earned by Morgan Reece; of Gainesville, GA, who finished the weekend with a solid score of 181.   The Boys 11-14 Division may have been the highlight of the weekend after some of the younger boys posted some very quality scores.  Coming in first place from Summerville, SC, was Zak Butt.  Butt shot an incredible 68 on Saturday and a consistent 73 on Sunday to finish with a great overall score of 141.  Butt, the younger boys first place leader, was also able to get his name in the statistical categories as he claimed the prize for most pars or better (83.3%) and par 4 performance (3.95).  Coming in a tight second place from Buford, GA was S.M. Lee who also had an amazing round Saturday after posting a 69, but after matching Butts’ score of 73 Sunday, Lee fell one stroke behind to come in second place.  Lee led the boys in several statistical categories over the weekend including eagles (1), birdies (8), most par breakers (25%) and par 5 performances (4.33).  Coming in third place out of Martinez, GA was Hunter Dunagan who continues to improve his rankings.  Dunagan was very steady all weekend as he shot a 76 and 75, respectively to finish with an overall score of 151.  Christian Baliker, of Simpsonville, SC, led the group with 23 pars.   The Girls 11-14 Division was won by Courtney Vogel from Greer, South Carolina.  Vogel shot a 164 over the weekend.  Vogel led the young ladies in all statistical categories including birdies (2), most par breakers (5.6%), most pars (12), most pars or better (38.9%), par 3 performance (3.62), par 4 performance (4.59) and par 5 performance (5.67).  Coming in second place was Rylie Marchman from Waynesboro, Georgia.  Rylie shot a 176 in order to take home the second place prize.  The girls were steady and consistent all weekend as they improved their game and standings.     Weather: Saturday: Temperature in the low 70’s, sunny skies Sunday: Temperature in the low 70’s, sunny skies   Tournament Yardages: Boys 15-18 Division: 6404 Boys 11-14 Division: 6019 Girls 15-18 Division: 5637 Girls 11-14 Division: 5637   Tournament Awards:Boys 15-18 Division
