The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Orlando, Florida on January 18-19 for the InstaGolf Orlando Junior Challenge held at Rio Pinar Country Club. The competitive field of 96 players battled through cold conditions on Saturday, but experienced better golf conditions for the final round on Sunday. Winners from each age division were invited to the Mid-Season Invitational and the Tour Championship. Winners in the girls 15-18 and girls 11-14 division each received one AJGA performance star. The winner of the boys 15-18 division received four AJGA performance stars while the top five finishers received one. All divisions were ranked by the NJGS and received Florida Junior Tour Exemptions. The top ten finishers in each division also received points towards year end honors including state teams, all HJGT Team, and the Hurricane Cup. Kaleb Johnson from Naples, Florida won the Boys 15-18 division after a final score of 145. Johnson followed his opening round of 74 with a final round score of -1, 71. Johnson carded only one bogey and two birdies on the front nine to make the turn at -1. After a double bogey on hole ten, Johnson bounced back with two birdies to shoot even par on the back nine. Jaeyeol Kim from Jacksonville, Florida finished in a tie for second with Yidong Zhang from Orlando, Florida after a score of 71 in his final round. Kim and Yidong finished with a weekend score of 147. Ariadna Fonseca of Apopka, Florida placed first in the competitive Girls 15-18 division after two rounds of 75. Fonseca had only one birdie but her consistent play was enough for her to win the tournament by three strokes. Michelle Hawkins, from Rockledge, Florida placed second after an opening score of 78 and a final round score of 75. The Fleming Island, Florida resident, Lauren Waidner, had rounds of 78 and 77 for a weekend total of 155 to place third. After a Sunday round score of 70, Garrett Barber of West Palm Beach, Florida won the Boys 11-14 division with a final round score of +4 after making four birdies. Nick Bessire from Orlando, Florida finished the tournament in second after rounds of 76 and 73. Bessire had three birdies in each round. Carson Sampl from Saint Cloud, Florida finished the tournament at +7 and placed third. Taking home the girls 11-14 division trophy was Annie Kim of Orlando, Florida after an overall score of 150. Kim fired a first round 78, and dropped six strokes in round two for a second round score of 72. Kim made two birdies in her final nine holes to shoot a -2 on the back nine of her final round. Orlando, Florida native Lucy Hou finished second after rounds of 84 and 71. Lou eagled the long par five sixth hole and shoot a very impressive -4 on the front nine of her final round. Finishing strong in third place was Cindy Kou with a weekend score of +12.
