  Wendt pulls away from the pack Dodson stays consistent throughout

  Augusta, GA (August 5th, 2012)- The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to the home of the Masters, Augusta, GA to host the Forest Hills Jr. Open from beautiful Forest Hills Golf Club. This tournament featured over 90 players from Georgia, North and South Carolina, Florida as well as international players. There were Junior Golf Scoreboard and South Carolina Junior Golf Association points at stake and the winner of each division received an automatic bid to the HJGT Tour Championship at the end of the season. The weather was beautiful on Saturday and rain delayed play for an hour on Sunday, but everyone finished their round in the sunshine. Our Boys 15-18 Division was won in impressive fashion by Rodney Wendt of Evans, GA by posting an outstanding 9 under par for the tournament (68+67). After going low in round one, Wendt went even lower in round two to take home the title. Wendt led the division in birdies (11), par 4 (3.75), and par 5 average (4.50). Claiming second was Carter Mobley of Waynesboro, GA with a 2-day total of 148 (72+76). Mobley finished second in par 5 average (4.75) and posted an impressive 22 pars in the tournament. There was a tie for third between Thomas Hodges of Monroe, GA (78+73) and Tyler Barker of Evans, GA (77+74) each posting a 2-day 151 total. Hodges posted 5 birdies and a par 3 average of 3.12 while Barker had 24 pars and recorded par or better on 75% of his holes. The Girls 15-18 Division was taken home by Taylor Dodson of Aiken, SC with a 2-day total of 154 (77+77). Dodson came into round two with the lead and played consistent enough to claim her second straight HJGT victory. Dodson lead her field in pars (23), par 4 (4.20) and tied for the lead in par 5 average (5.12). Sarah Harrison of Martinez, GA finished second, just 3 shots off with a 2-day 157 total (80+77). Harrison tied for the division lead in birdies (3) and best par 5 average in her field (5.12) while posting the most par breakers (8.3%). Natalia Segura of Kennesaw, GA rounds out our top 3 after posting a tournament total of 161 (80+81). Segura also tied for most birdies (3) and posted 15 pars over the course of her two rounds. The Boys 11-14 Division was very competitive and won by States Fort of Evans, GA after posting a 2-day total of 146 (75+71). Fort posted a red number in round two to end up winning by two shots, also claiming his second straight victory on the HJGT. Fort lead his division in birdies (9), closing his round with 5 straight. Fort also posted an under par average on par 5’s (4.50) and even par on par 3’s. Zak Butt of Summerville, SC took second after posting a final score of 148 (72+76). Butt’s impressive performance on par 3’s (2.88 average) surely lead to his high finish. Butt also tied for the division lead in most pars (25) and had 80.6% of his holes at par or better. Alex Wells of Evans, GA took third with a 2-day total of 152 (77+75). Wells’ two shot improvement proved to be the difference between being awarded a trophy or not. Wells also tied for most pars (25) and posted a perfect average on the par 3’s. The Girls 11-14 Division was won for the second consecutive event by Rylie Marchman of Waynesboro, GA after 2 consistent rounds and finishing at 164 (81+83), Marchman now has two HJGT wins in the past month. Marchman lead her division in birdies (3), pars (12), par 3 (3.25), par 4 (4.70) and par 5 average (5.50). Layne-Marie Carter of Lyons, GA claimed second with a 2-day total of 183 (93+90). Carter was second in pars (9), par 4 (5.10) and par 5 average (6.12). Lara-Alexis Marie took home third after posting a 2-day total of 201 (92+109). Marie finished second in par 3 average (3.62), posted 7 pars, and made par or better on 22.2% of her holes. The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on tour will compete in one of four age divisions: Boys 15-18 Division, Boys 11-14 and Girls 15-18 and 11-14 Division. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the southeast, with stops in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
