Augusta Jr. Shootout Highlight Video

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Augusta, Georgia on May 10-11 for the Augusta Junior Shootout at Bartram Trail Golf Club. Both days featured a mix of weather conditions that challenged and tested players with overcast skies and the occasional rain shower. This translated into competitive scores for all of our age divisions in the nearly 100 player field of competition. The tournament began with the sound of the horn blowing to kick-off the shotgun start for all competitors followed by Sunday’s championship round which lead to thrilling play between all age divisions. Winners in all divisions received an automatic bid into the 2014 Tour Championship and Mid-Season Invitational. Players also competed for Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings, South Carolina Junior Golf Association Heritage Points and Tarheel Youth Golf Association Points Four AJGA Performance Stars were awarded to the Boys 15-18 winner as well as one Performance Star for the top ten percent of the field. One AJGA Performance Star was earned by the winner of the Boys 11-14 division. Additionally, the top ten finishers received points towards year end honors which include state teams, All HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. After two days of fierce competition, Tyler Barker of Evans, Georgia was the Boys 15-18 division winner. Barker carded a first round score of even par, 72 and followed up this performance up by shooting a four under, 68 in the final round. Barker’s total score for the weekend was four under, 140. In addition to firing the lowest score in the field, Barker also recorded the most birdies in his division with ten. Andrew Bourg of Peachtree City, Georgia placed second behind Barker by firing a first round of 70, two under par. He then recorded a second round even par, 72, for a tournament total of 142. Bourg finished the weekend with nine birdies including two back to back in the first round. In third place was Javier Gonzalez of Veracruz, Mexico. He had a first round even par, 72 and finished up Sunday’s round with a one under, 71. This made his tournament total 143. Gonzalez also fired nine total birdies through the tournament. He had a stretch of three in a row during his front nine on Sunday. The highlight of Gonzalez’s tournament however was his eagle during the first round on the par five, fourth hole. Isidora Quevedo of Sanitago, Chile outlasted her competitors in the Girls 15-18 division at Bartram Trail through the two days of competition. She won by firing off a first round 68 and a second round 74 for a weekend total of 142, two under par. Quevedo finished the competition with six total birdies on the weekend with two streaks of two coming in her first round. The highpoint of Quevedo’s weekend was her eagle on the par five, 18th hole during the first round. Sarah Harrison of Martinez, Georgia placed second this weekend. She was able to card a 76 in the first round followed by a second round of 74 which brought her weekend score to 150. Harrison had two birdies during round one, and posted an eagle on the par five, fourth hole in the second round. Finishing in third place was Fiona Hebbel of Leverkuzen, Germany. She recorded a first round score of 78 and a final round score of 81 which gave Hebbel a 159 total on the weekend. She carded four birdies in the tournament. Grant Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina became the Boys 11-14 division winner at Bartram Trail. He fired an even par 72 in round one and an impressive six under par, 66 in his final round for a tournament total of 138. He recorded ten birdies on the weekend including six coming in his bogey free final round. Finishing in second place was Austen Heider of Evans, Georgia. He scored a first round 73 and a second round 70 for a weekend score of 143. Heider also fired ten birdies in tournament play this weekend. Like Smith, Heider carded six in the final round as well. Andrew Chong of Grovetown, Georgia placed third this weekend. He recorded a first round 74 and a second round 70 which gave Chong a 144 total for the weekend. He posted eight birdies on the weekend but the highlight of Chong’s weekend was his eagle on the par five, fourth hole on Sunday. Christyn Carr of Johns Creek Georgia was the Girls 11-14 division champion by 11 strokes. She fired a first round 74 and a second round 77 for a weekend total of 151. Carr recorded four birdies during the tournament which helped to lead her to victory amongst her fellow competitors. Alexis Taylor of Lithonia, Georgia finished second behind Carr. Taylor had a first round 83 and a second round 79 which gave her a 162 total for the weekend. She posted three birdies in the tournament, including carding a two on the par three, seventh hole both rounds. Kendall Smith of Martinez, Georgia placed third. She recorded a first round 82 and a second round 81 for a 163 in the tournament. During round one, Smith fired four birdies.
