West Coast Regional Invitational

On Saturday, November 4, 2017 and Sunday, November 5, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted a tournament in Seaside, California at Bayonet & Blackhorse. The rounds were split between courses. The first round was played on Bayonet and the second round was played on Blackhorse. The players continued to perform well as the tournament progressed throughout the weekend.  This prestigious course is known throughout the golf industry. The opportunity that these kids had to play on this course is very rare itself.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

West Coast Regional Invitational

Mikey Burkland of Alamo, CA is the boys’ 16-18 champion. Peterson won his division with amazing scores of 79 on Saturday and a 69 on Sunday for a two-day total of 148. Cameron Henry of Los Gatos, CA finished in 2nd with a two-day total of 150 (72-78). 3rd place was won by Ben Bermel of Cedar Falls, IA (151) (77-74). All the players had a great time competing against each other on these beautiful courses.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

West Coast Regional Invitational

Caleb Barstad of Carmel Valley, CA is the champion of the boys’ 14-15 division. Caleb showed improvements throughout the tournament with a first round score of 80 and a score of 73 on day two for a two-day total of 153. Nicolas Gavasse of Aptos, CA came in 2nd after finishing with a two-day total of 159 (80-79). 3rd place was taken by Josiah Crews of Ninnekah, OK with a two-day total of 162 (85-77). The competition in this division pushed each other as each hole progressed. This made the placing more interesting as the end approached.

Ernie Els 11-13

West Coast Regional Invitational

Luke Powell of Laguna Niguel, CA is the boys’ 11-13 champion. After posting a 78 on Saturday, Luke followed it up with a 78 on Sunday for a two-day total of 156. Noah Kirsch of DeWitt, IA finished 2nd with a two-day total of 160 (82-78). 3rd place was taken by Ryan Zhang of Saratoga, CA with a two-day total of 187. Everyone in this age division pushed each other from tee to green. This made the field that much more interesting as you followed on each hole.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

West Coast Regional Invitational

Abbi Fleiner of Reno, NV is the girls’ 14-18 champion. Fleiner had a 78 on Saturday and followed it up with a score of 79 on Sunday for a two-day total of 157. Finishing in 2nd from Monterey, CA was Coco Chai who posted consistent rounds of 78 and 81 with a total of 159. 3rd place was taken by Dymphna Ueda of Concord, CA with a two day total of 162 (88-74). The back nine was the deciding factor when it came down to who the champion would be.

Justin Rose Girls U13

West Coast Regional Invitational

Athena Nguyen is the girls’ 13 and under champion. Nguyen of San Jose, CA came out on top after scoring a two-day total of 155 (79-76). 2nd place was taken by Ellie Bushnell of Granite Bay, CA. Bushnell posted a two-day total of 157 (78-79). 3rd place was a tie between Harper Clementz of San Francisco, CA (172) (89-83) and Amelia Greenlee of Roseville, CA (172) (86-86). 

Boys 10 Under

West Coast Regional Invitational

Jeff Seong of Tacoma, WA took home the first-place trophy for the boys’ under 10 division. Seong shot a score of 89 on Saturday and finished by cutting down his strokes by 15 on Sunday (74). For the two day weekend he shot 163. Jeff was the only participant in his division, but he still tried his hardest on every hole. This determination and drive is what led to the improvement in his score for round two.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
