From Saturday June 15th through Sunday June 16th,the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Virginia Summer Jr. Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of six divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau Division Boys 10 and Under, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13and Under.
James Gorman of Greenville, SC took the first-round lead after scoring a 77 on Saturday. Gorman remained at the top of the leaderboard all weekend, with a final round of 71 to win by a 5-stroke margin. Aryan Vuradi of Ashburn, VA finished in second place with rounds of 78 and 75, tying with Cameron Deluliis of Highland, MD for runner up honors. Vuradi and Deluliis finished their week with 153 shots total.
Mehrbaan Singh of Ashburn, VA had a two-day total of 142. Singh was able to seal his victory with rounds of 73 and 69 over the weekend, making 4 birdies the last day to finish at the top of the leaderboard. Benjamin Newfield of Arlington, VA claimed runner-up honors with a two-day total of 145, just 3 shots shy of the winner for the division. Rounding up the top three were was Ethan McDonald of Dublin, OH with a three-day total of 152 shots and claim solo third-place honors.
Cole Shingleton of Winchester, VA was able to seal his victory after a two-day total of 161 strokes. Shingleton had two birdies for the weekend, helping him win by a 16 shot margin and stay at the top of the leaderboard. Nicholas Zhu of Vienna, VA claimed runner-up honors after a weekend total of 177 strokes and an 86 on the first round.
Irene Wang of Irvine, CA was able to seal her victory with a two-day total of 140 and a first-round lead of 71. Wang shot a 69 on Sunday to win by a margin of thirteen strokes over her closest rival with 6 birdies for the weekend. Vynie Chen of Centreville, VA claimed solo runner-up honors with a weekend total of 153 shots and 4 birdies. Rounding up the top three was Emma Saunders of Savannah, GA with a weekend total of 156shots to claim third-place honors.
Alina Ho of Great Falls, VA shot a 167 weekend total to seal a two-shot victory over her closest competitor. Ho closed out her weekend with a final round of 79 to claim victory. Following her was Kayla Maletto of Sinking Springs, PA with weekend round of 82 and 87 to finish with solo runner-up honors. And rounding up our top-three was Alexandra Mathis of Leesburg, VA with a weekend total of 177 shots an claim solo third-place honors.
Boys 10 Under
Ayush Bhansali of Ashburn, VA was our lone competitor for the division, with a weekend total of 168 shots. Bhansali had a significant improvement on Sunday with an impressive round of 76 on Sunday to claim victory.
