On Sunday, August 5, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Union County Junior Open in Kenilworth, New Jersey. The event turned into a one-day, eighteen-hole tournament due to weather, but was held at the Galloping Hill Golf Course consisting of players from all six of our divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Union County Junior Open

Sahasawat Ariyachatvakin of Bangkok came out on top in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division playoff against now second-place finisher, Kyle Zere of Ronkonkoma, New York. Both shot 71 strokes and made 3 birdies each through the eighteen holes to tie at 71. Evagay’s Sebastian Trujillo placed third after making 75 strokes and the most birdies in his division, 4, to total +4 at the end of the round. 

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Union County Junior Open

It was Ryan Rinaldo of Colts Neck, New Jersey who captured the title in the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division after totaling +13 at the end of round 1. He had a Par-3 average (3.7) and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (84). Second-place finisher, Ethan Kuhlkin, of New York City, completed the eighteen holes at +17. Tyler Zere of Ronkonkoma, New York placed third after making 90 strokes over the course of the tournament to finish at +19. 

Ernie Els 11-13

Union County Junior Open

In the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Barnes Blake of Westfield, New Jersey was victorious with his -1 total. He led his playing field with the most birdies (7) and the lowest scoring average (70). Lance Hollingshead of Basking Ridge, New Jersey placed second as he completed the round with a total of +3. Third-place finisher, Daniel Shin of Horsham, Pennsylvania made 77 strokes to result in his +6 finish. 

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Union County Junior Open

Taylor Oberparleiter of Laurel Springs, New Jersey became the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division tournament champion as she won the scorecard playoff. She made 2 birdies and tied the second-place finishers with the lowest Par-3 average (3) and the lowest scoring average (78). The Top-3 finishers all made 78 strokes for a +7 finish, but as a result of the scorecard playoff, Olivia Patrow (East Stroudsburg, PA) and Theresa Luu (Mullica Hill, NJ) both tied for second behind Taylor.

Justin Rose Girls U13

Union County Junior Open

Short Hills, New Jersey’s Melissa Yuan claimed the first-place trophy in the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division with her +14 total. She made 1 birdie and led her playing field with the lowest Par-3 average (3) and the lowest scoring average (85). Ava Choi Choi of Edison placed second with a total of +22 at the end of the day. Third-place finisher was Summer Stephens of Waxhaw, North Carolina who made 97 strokes through the eighteen holes to finish at +26. 

Boys 10 Under

Union County Junior Open

Braden Lutz of Chathem dominated the Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division with his +18 total to win the tournament. He led his playing field with the most birdies (2) and the lowest scoring average (89). Second-place finisher Dennis Fitzgerald of Manasquan, New Jersey, totaled +27 at the end of the round. Nicky Jadav finished just one stroke back at +28, to claim the third-place spot.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
