From Saturday, March 16 – Sunday, March 17, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Club Med Academies Junior Open at Sandpiper Bay Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole, two-day format and the field was made from five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13 and Under.
It was a tight race in the Tiger Woods Division, but Fynn Fenstermacher of Port St. Lucie, FL ended up on top with 134 strokes. Just two strokes behind him was Min Jun Kim of Boca Raton, FL, who finished out the weekend with 136 strokes. Just two strokes behind Kim, there was a two-way tie for third. Yuya Eguchi of Port St. Lucie, FL and Alex Zurat of Victor, NY both earned the bronze trophy as they finished with 138 strokes each.
Max Jelinek of Port St. Lucie, FL was on his game this past weekend and captured the first-place title in the Will Smith Division. He finished out the weekend with 142 strokes. Jon Wang of Melbourne, FL earned the silver trophy with 149 strokes. Andres Barraza of Parkland, FL earned third place just one stroke behind Wang.
The competition was fierce the Ernie Els Division, as there was a two-way tie for first place. Lance Hollingshead of Basking Ridge, NJ and Diego Azar of Miami, FL both finished with 145 strokes. After the playoff, Hollingshead ended up on top. Rounding out the division there was another two-way tie, but for the bronze trophy. Tymon Sun and Tyrone Sun, both of Windermere, FL finished out the division with 149 strokes each.
Sophie Anand of Albany, Bahamas was the champion of the Justin Timberlake Division as she rounded out the weekend with 142 strokes. Elizabeth Labbe of Florida earned second as she finished just two strokes behind Anand. Just one stroke behind Labbe, there was a two-way tie for third. Yasmine Qureshi of Florida and Carla Alvarex Perez of Panama both finished with 145 strokes each.
Finishing with a solid two-day total of 145 strokes, Alexandra Pool of Weston, MA was the champion of the Justin Rose Division. Eleanor Parkerson of Boston, MA won second with 150 strokes. Just one stroke shy of second was Genevieve Jobin-Colgan of Florida with 151 strokes.
