On Friday, November 24rd, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour kicked off the 5th Annual Hurricane Cup at The Sea Island Retreat Course. Players from all over the country amalgamated to participate in a unique event that the tour holds only one time a year. 11 teams of 6 were chosen to participate but only one team in the end would be named champion of the 5th annual Hurricane Cup.
Both Saturday and Sunday brought beautiful weather and ideal playing conditions for the kids over the weekend. Lush fairways and true rolling greens allowed for the kids to showcase their skills at a very high level. Being that the Hurricane Cup is a team event, the kids were faced with the challenge of strategizing and coming up with a plan to maximize each players talents and abilities.
The Format for on day one was 9 holes of better ball and 9 holes of alternate shot, counting two out of the three score. Day two was individual stoke play where 5 out of the six posted scores would count towards to overall total.
There were many great rounds played over the weekend but one state team proved dominance once again. Florida came out of the gates and posted both a 68 (-4) and 71 (-1) to jump out to an 8-shot lead day one over the Southeast team. Florida took care of the hard part and relied on individual performances to come through on Sunday to pull out the victory. Florida was able to do just that with great play across the board by all 6 of their players.
