Tennessee Junior Open at Champions Run

On Saturday, June 16 – Sunday, June 17, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Tennessee Junior Open at Champions Run in Rockvale, Tennessee. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament held at the Champions Run Golf Course consisted of golfers from all six of our division including, the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Tennessee Junior Open at Champions Run

Shelden Barina of Murfreesboro, Tennessee captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division after finishing -2 with 142 strokes. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (71), the most birdies (9), and the longest birdie or better streak (3). Jonathan Xionis of Chattanooga, Tennessee finished second with 147 strokes for a +3 finish. Devin Speight of Mount Juliet, Tennessee was the third-place finisher with a two-day total of 149 strokes (+5).

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Tennessee Junior Open at Champions Run

In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Zach Ashley of Killen, Alabama finished +3 with 147 strokes to secure the first-place title. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 73.5. Second-place finisher, Collier Thompson of Brentwood, Tennessee, was +13 with 157 strokes. Ashley and Thompson both tied for the most birdies in their playing field, each making 4. Wyatt Seilkop of Suwanee, Georgia finished third with 166 strokes for a +22 finish.

Ernie Els 11-13

Tennessee Junior Open at Champions Run

Troup Wallace of Brentwood, Tennessee took home the first-place trophy in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division after breaking even to finish -1. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (71.5), the most birdies (8), and the longest birdie or better streak (3). Lofton McRee of Murfreesboro finished the tournament second with 150 strokes for a +6 finish. Third-place finisher was Cole Campbell of Ethridge, Tennessee who finished +8 with 152 strokes.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Tennessee Junior Open at Champions Run

Ali McCarthy fought hard for the first-place title in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division after finishing the weekend and winning the play-off with a +7 finish. She had the lowest par 3 average in her division at 3.2. Kaley Campbell of Ethridge, Tennessee finished second with the same +7 finish. She made the most birdies in her playing field with 4 and tied McCarthy for the lowest scoring average at 75.5. As for third-place, there was a three-way tie between Haley Whitten Rae (Thompson Station, TN), Madison Logan (Brasstown, NC), and Morgan Collins (Bremen, GA) who all finished with 159 strokes for +15 on the weekend.

Justin Rose Girls U13

Tennessee Junior Open at Champions Run

There was another play-off in the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division between Vilda Westh-Blanc (Bell Buckle, TN) and Trinity Beth (Calvert City, KY). Westh-Blanc’s best round on Sunday led her to tie Beth and her momentum kept going as she won the playoff to take home the first-place trophy. Beth had the most birdies (6), the lowest par 3 average (3), and tied Westh-Blanc for the lowest scoring average in their playing field of 72.5.

Boys 10 Under

Tennessee Junior Open at Champions Run

The Boys U10 Division’s Zachary Barrett, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was victorious after finishing +32 with 176 strokes. He had a low scoring average of 88, a par 3 average of 4, and the most birdies with 2. This is Zachary’s first 1st place victory on tour this year, following his 2nd place finish, and two 3rd place finishes.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
