On Saturday, July 7 – Sunday, July 8, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Tampa Bay Summer Junior Open in Tampa Bay, Florida. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament that took place at the Heritage Isles Golf & Country Club consisted of players from all six of our divisions, including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Tampa Bay Summer Junior Open

Ronnie Hun of Macau captured the victory in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division after finishing +5. He led his playing field with the most birdies (5), lowest Par 3 average (3.2), and the lowest scoring average (74.5). Patrick Laushell of Morrisville, Pennsylvania placed second after shooting 156 strokes for a +12 finish through the thirty-six holes. As for third-place, there was a tie between Marko Knezevic (Wesley Chapel, FL) and Kenny Duffin (Hoschton, GA) as they both finished +14 with 158 strokes. 

Will Smith Boys 14-15

In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, it was Mohit Balaji of Kissimmee, Florida who took home the title after finishing +16 on the weekend. He led his playing field with the most birdies (3), the lowest scoring average (80), and the lowest Par 3 average (3.2). Second-place finisher was Tomas Amaya of Singer Island, Florida who shot 161 strokes for a +17 finish. Oliver Warren of Lakewood Ranch, Florida finished third after making 163 strokes for a +19 finish.

Ernie Els 11-13

Tampa Bay Summer Junior Open

Rafe Cochran of Palm Beach, Florida was victorious this weekend in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division as he completed the two-day tournament at +1. He made two birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (72.5) and the longest birdie or better streak (2). Connor McCann of Tallahassee, Florida placed second after his 146 strokes helped him finish at +2. There was a two-way tie for third-place between Jiacheng Xu (Winter Garden, FL) and Tristin Perkins (Wesley Chapel, FL) as they both finished +9 with 153 strokes. 

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Jingxiu Huang of Lakewood Ranch, Florida captured the title in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division as she ended the two-day tournament at +10. She led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (77), the most birdies (6), the longest birdie or better streak (2), and the lowest Par 3 average (2.6). Second-place finisher was Sophia Warren, also of Lakewood Ranch, who made 155 strokes for a +11 finish through the thirty-six holes. Tampa native, Svarnika Bommakanti, placed third with 164 strokes for a two-round total of +20. 

Justin Rose Girls U13

Tampa Bay Summer Junior Open

In the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division, it was Teng Teng Hun of Macau who walked off with the first-place trophy after completing the weekend at +11. She led her playing field with the most birdies (4), the lowest Par 3 average (3.2), and the lowest scoring average (77.5). Singer Island, Florida’s Camila Amaya placed second after 168 strokes for a +24 finish. Third-place finisher was Rebecca Wang of Beijing who finished +71 with 215 strokes through the thirty-six holes. 

Boys 10 Under

Tampa Bay Summer Junior Open

In the Boys U10 Division, the champion was Graden Lomax of Lutz, Florida who shot 151 strokes for a +7 finish through the thirty-six holes. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (75.5), the most birdies (2), and the lowest Par 3 average (3.2). Shitian Wang of Beijing placed second with 221 strokes for a +77 finish on the weekend.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
