On Saturday, June 30 – Sunday, July 1, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Summer Junior Open at Eagle Creek in Orlando, Florida. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament that took place on The Eagle Creek Golf Club consisted of players from all six of our divisions, including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Ethan Werblo of Orange City, Florida captured the victory in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division as he shot -3 through 24 holes (due to weather). He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 71. Jiarong Liu of Huhhot, China placed second with a total of 95 strokes for a -2 finish. Werblo and Liu tied for the most birdies (7) and the longest birdie or better streak (2). Third place finisher was Logan Flores of St. Augustine, Florida who finished the shortened tournament at +1.
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, it was Junhwan Kim of Lake Mary, Florida who took home the victory after shooting -4 through 9 (due to weather). He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (71) and the most birdies (6). Second-place finisher was Kyle Bachkosky of Peachtree City, Georgia who finished E. As for third-place, there was a three-way tie between Shawn Lalmoni (Orlando, FL), Clement Bedier, and Bryce Werblo (Orange City, FL) who all finished +2 through the 27.
Danny Erickson of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida was victorious in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division this weekend after finishing +1. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (73), the longest birdie or better streak and the most birdies (3). Winter Garden, Florida’s Jai Bahl placed second as he finished +4 through the 27 holes. Third-place finisher was Jiacheng Xu, also of Winter Garden, who finished the weekend at +7.
In the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, it was Jordyn Hodgson of Orlando who took home the first-place trophy as she finished E through the 27 (due to rain). She made 4 birdies and the her playing field with the lowest scoring average (73) and the lowest Par 3 average (3). Second-place finisher was Briana Gabe of Melbourne, Florida who finished +5 on the weekend. As for third-place, there was a tie between Caroline Nemes (Orlando, FL) and AItana Pousa Dacasa (Panama) as the both finished at +14.
Boston’s Xinen Lin took home the trophy in the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division after shooting 117 strokes through 27 holes (due to weather) to finish at +8. She led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (78), the longest birdie or better streak (2), and the most birdies (5). Second-place finisher was Sifat Sayal of Winter Garden, Florida who shot 121 strokes for a +12 finish.
Boys 10 Under
It was a successful weekend for Kenny Klein in the Boys U10 Division as he finished at +41 through 32 holes (due to rain). Klein, out of West Palm Beach, Florida, had a low scoring average of 95, made 1 birdie and a Par 3 average of 3.4. This was Kenny’s first tournament on tour this year, and he started out on a good note.
