From Saturday June 1stthrough Sunday June 2nd, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the St. Louis Junior Open at the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course, MO. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of six divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau Division Boys 10 and Under and Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18.
Alex White of Hillsboro, IL took the first-round lead after scoring a 76 and remaining at the top of the leaderboard all weekend. White followed up his exceptional first-round score with a 77 on Sunday for a seven-shot victory over Cooper Benedict of Wildwood, MO. Benedict finished in second place after shooting a two-round total of 160 strokes with a 78 on Sunday. Andy Hennen of Saint Louis, MO tied for runner-up honors with a 160 shots for the weekend and round up our top-three.
Riley Reynoso of St. Louis, MO shot a three-day total of 173 to take an early lead on Saturday and remain in contention through the weekend, winning with a seven-shot margin over his closest competitor. Closing out the week with an 86 on Sunday, Reynoso was able to take home the hardware. Runner-up Benjamin Berger of St. Charles, MO shot a two-day total of 180 to take solo second-place honors. Rounding up the top-three for the division were Timmy Powers of St. Louis, MO and Nick Matheney of Mount Pleasant, IA with two-day totals of 189 shots.
Harrison Zipfel of University City, MO led the Ernie Els Boys Division with a 155 three-round total and take an early lead with a first-round 77. Zipfel closed out his two-day total with a 78 on Sunday and a birdie on 15 to seal his victory. Following his lead was John “Bubba” Chapman of St. Louis, MO who improved his scoring the last day to finish with a 160 two-round total and take runner-up honors by a small five-shot margin. And finishing up the top-three was Gabriel Gold of Quincy, IL with a two-day total of 173 and take solo third-place honors.
Lindsey Byer of St. Louis MO shot a stellar two-day total of 166 to take home first-place honors with a three-shot margin over her closest competitor. Byer finished her week with an 84 on Sunday to seal her victory. Following her was Kylee Hormuth of Wentzville, MO with a two-day total of 169 and a first-round 81. Rounding up the top-three, Ellie Johnson of Des Peres, MO shot a two-day total of 185 and take solo third-place honors.
Boys 10 Under
Caden Fehr of Widwood, MO led the way in the Boys 10 and Under division with a total of 158 strokes for the week. Shooting a stellar 78 the first day to finish at the top of the leaderboard. Our lone competitor had a birdie on 14 the last day to finish his successful week in Missouri.
