On Saturday, June 2 – Sunday, June 3, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the St. Louis Junior Open #1 in Alton, Illinois. The two-day tournament that took place consisted of 36-holes and had a player field of three divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, and the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division.
Thomas Henson of Hermann, Missouri took home the first-place victory in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 with a two day total of 150 (+6). It was a fight for the title but Henson’s first-round of 74 helped him lead the playing field with the lowest scoring average (75) and the most birdies (5). Second-place finisher, Josh Kleinheider of Edwardsville, Illinois, finished the weekend with a total of 151 (+7). Kolten Bauer of Alton, Illinois finished third with a total of 156 (+12). Both Kleinheider and Bauer had 4 birdies.
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ian Blome of Ofallon, Missouri finished first with a total of 148 (+4). He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (74) and the most birdies (7). Jack Dumas of Le Claire, Iowa finished second with a total of 152 (+8). Third-place finisher was Cooper Benedict of Wildwood, Missouri who finished one stroke behind Dumas at 153 (+9).
The Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division was won by Drew Nienhaus of St. Albans, Missouri. She shot 80 and 82 in round 1 and round 2, respectively, for a total of 162 strokes (+18). Nienhaus’ success is backed by the lowest scoring average (81) and the most birdies (3).
